Saturday morning at 6:00 am Rubicon500,myself and a buddy slammed the truck doors and were off for 2 weeks of chasing Stone's. With the hopes of heavy October snows and big rams we made the long trek north.

This was to be all of our first time hunting sheep into October. The first day the skies were blue and the sun was in full force but the weather was soon to change.

In the end we hunted hard for 12 days, seen many rams and a couple in the class we were looking for but the weather changed extremly quick and things just didn't work out for us this year. We passed on a few more legal rams later in the hunt as they were not the mature rams my hunting partners were looking for. One night we got a honest 10+ inchs of snow and it kept piling up in the days to follow. Of the 12 days we only had 2 days that we were fogged completly in so endless amounts of "Crazy 8's" were played.

Here's a few pictures from an awesome 2 weeks in our great province!!!!

I drew a fall grizz tag this year and harvested this bear in the middle of the trip.

All in all it was a super fun trip. Shorter days and some tougher conditions then what we've had before made for an exciting trip.

Howdy, great pictures and a great looking bear,to bad the weather didn't hold for you. Been there, done that so I know how hard it is to fill the tags in that kind of weather, but good job on a nice looking bear. Later

Looks like tough walking, but I imagine the sheep would stand out a bit more in the snow? Thanks for the pics.

Nothing like the thick cape on an October sheep. Try again next year. Looks like you're on them.

Well done on the g'bear.

That snow is a risk / reward addition to your hunt.

A little off topic but..... does anyone else think the guy in the second pic stirring the pot looks like one of the Sedin twins?

Hey - two questions for you. How did you find that stove worked for you in the cold? I've used a white gas MSR stove for years that is a snow melting machine, but my ultralight cartridge stove just doesn't cut it once the temps get below 0. Do you have trick for keeping that stove pumping out BTU's?

Second - ten iches of snow overnight sounds like a good start to high avalanche hazard. Did you guys plan for this ahead (bring avi gear) or take a less exposed route home? Those tracks through the shallow bowl gave me the heebie-jeebies! A little wind loading together with an early season snowpack. . . you've got the makings of trouble there.

Looks like a great adventure though!

The stove took a bit of messing with to get it figured out, first trip using it and all. Ya got to keep it in your sleeping bag at night and during the day keep it in a jacket or something to keep it warmer. We'd throw it in our pocket about a hour before we wanted to use it make sure the fuel was warm. We also cooked on top of a ridge rest to keep the cold out from the bottom of the canister and used a windscreen. They tell you not to but when its -18 i highly doubt the canister will get hot enough to explode. It seemed to work good once we figurd it out, was around 6 mins to boil that icey creek water so really not that bad.

Nope no avi gear for us, frankly an avalanche was the last thing on our mind we had seen 2 Cranker rams haha. We were tempted to sit on the ridge rests like crazy carpets and slide down the hill, would been a hell of a ride and ALOT quicker than walking down ha.

Brent the gear all seemed to work well. Gaiters are a must, I wont go anywhere without them now. The trusty old 3 season tent
held up to the snow very well considering the dump we got. A down jacket is good idea, I wont go anywhere in the late season now
with out it!! Warms ya up very quick and it only weighs around 12 ounces. Could have brought some warmer gloves haha. We brought 30" chunk of a ridgerest sleeping pad, that we had cut up and its a real treat for glassing on rather than sitting in the snow. A montbell Down sleeping bag is the next thing on my list!! Our partner had just bought one and we were all throughly impressed with it!!
