So after my elk hunt back my neck of the woods i had a few buddies with moose draws for region 7. My buddys dad and him ask me if i wanted to come along and do some calling for them. I could even take a spike or fork bull if the opportunity presented itself.
I headed out three days late into there trip. When i arrived they had allready claimed to bulls. One being a real good bull.
After seeing the moose i was excited and couldnt wait to get out and do some hunting. first couple days being no success, but i did find some good sign in one particular cut. The plan was to walk in there in the dark on our last morning, and sit there and bellow for hours. Well we walked in and spooked something off as we could here them running up to the timber line. I started cow calling right away, and almost instantly we had a bull grunting at us from down below. Then we could here the animal that we spooked off scrapping trees. This went on for nearly an hour. Which by now is pleanty enough light to shoot. After some sneaking through the new growth pines a hundred yards away we could see a real nice bull beating the hell out of a tree. My buddy lined up with his 30-06 and let one rip. The moose dropped in his tracks. it was a done deal.
now i have always packed out my game. even if i am able to get within a couple hundred yards i have always packed it out. After watching these guys pull the moose out with there quad i might re think next time. made things quick. heres some pics of some excellent representations of fine bulls
