What do you do to keep game from freezing in cold weather. Is it a problem if the carcuss is frozen before butchering? Minus -14 outside my cabin and I have a moose hanging that is starting to freeze!!!

I've heard it can cause some issues but I didn't notice any difference in my Sask Whitey that froze HARD within a couple of hours.

I had a Muley, freeze solid within 6 hours of shooting it, I did not skin it out until it thawed 5 days later, no issue with the meat or cape.

We downed 2 bull moose 2 years ago in minus 30 ...... froze .....stiff.
Impossible to even get the hide off the quarters after packing it out just hours later. Hung for days in the lower mainland until it finally thawed enough to skin and butcher. No issues, great eating still. No worries.

Thanks for the responce guys. The thought of bringing the beast inside was not appealing!!!! I will leave him hanging until I leave tomorrow . At least I dont have to deal with any bugs

Four of us shot cow elk in Region 7 (LEH) a few years ago in -20 to -40 conditions. All of the animals were skinned shortly after harvesting and all of them froze solid while hanging. This was some of the best wild meat I've ever eaten.

Never had a problem, thaw it out and cut it up.

I shot a bull in aug. in fort nelson a few years back. To hot to hang and I was leaving for holidays the next day, so I quartered the moose and put it in my deep freeze. Took it out later in october and butchered it. No problems what so ever. Great meat and taste.
