Sure it's been done before. But as a displaced Van Island boy I just wanted to share this great (IMO) Mule deer buck.
Not much of a story. My great hunting buddy who still lives on Vancouver Island came to do some Elk hunting near Kimberly. On his way back he stopped here for some 'scouting'. All the locals (I'm still a tourist in my eyes) say that the best hunting is after the snow falls. But we scouted here and there (4-09) on the quads. We hit the one high point at dawn, hiked over the rise and saw 2 Mule bucks moving across the slash. I waited til the bigger one slowed down and dropped him at 75 yards with my .270. Steep pack but he's in great shape due to pre rut and all.
Terrible thing is there's no place to really hang him so he's in cheese cloth under a tarp...... on the kids' swing set!
Jeeez they make them bigger here than Island deer eh?

Thanks guys!
I do have some pics on the computer but no real "Wow lookit the body on that beast!" kinds. was amazing when my buddy and I wanted to move him to a higher spot to gut him and we both nearly tore our shoulders out. Isn't there a course for "It's not an Island deer but a Mainland deer"?

That's a beauty. Sure beats chasing those Crofton mountain dishrags I bet. Great time of year to get one for the freezer and the wall all in one. You must be missing the salmon and prawns by now. Congrats on the buck.

Just to give you a heads up! that deer is not a larger that average muley!
In the first pic the body actually looks a little small!
Coming from the island, I can see how you would be surprised by the size, but they do get a lot bigger!
I guess you and yer buddy are going to have to HTFU if yer gonna drag out mainland mulies!

Nice buck by the way, theres no going back to then island rat dog now!

Nice! Very nice indeed. Used to be for me climbing in waist deep snow to get one like that.
