Well thought I'd post the pics of my first 6 point elk!!
After a 13hour drive up to the east koots (2 hours in Castlegar with a blown air pump on the truck) in summertime heat we setup in the dark.
The next day we heard all the tales of woo about the heat and no elk (all going to the farmers fields in the dark)
The first night I decided to sit the area I had shot an elk 2 years earlier. Well it seemed all the tales of woo were correct as I didn't even heard a twig snap.
The next day I changed strategy and starting exploring away from where everyone was trying to find the elk. That day I saw a dozen does and turkeys but still no elk.
Now on day 3 I spent about 4 hours out onthe quad and only saw 4 does but I did find 2 watering holes. As it was around 5 pm I decided to head back to one of the holes and just sit.
When I pulled up to hole the first thing I see is a little doe. She scoots away. I decide to setup along a tree line just to the west of the pond (pond was in a swail with about 300yards of open field feeding into it and about 150 yrds of open space between tree lines)
Well after about 30 mintues (about 6pm) out walks my new friend!!! All I see is the right side of his antlers at first 5points doh!! Count it 6 times doesent change!! All of a sudden he turns his head ! oh my whats that 6 points?
Well the rest is history
