I think I figured out how to post photos. Caught the Saturday (Oct 3rd) afternoon ferry and was in camp by 11 pm. The next day, the wife and I hiked 20 kms by GPS. Did not see anything, however we did find 9 sheds. That night we went for a drive and shot a couple grouse, still no deer. Next morning, 8km hike and one deer seen ? Decided to go for an afternoon drive and a fork and some does crossed the road in front of us. We both went in after the buck and the wife put him down with one shot. On the way back to camp and another fork crossed the road and out of sight. The next morning, we decided to go for another 20 km hike. At 0730 hours, I spotted a deer , but it took off before I could tell what it was. By the manner it took off, I thought it might be a lone buck. I ran about 100 yds to where I could get a good look, and I thought he went. About 250 yds away I spotted a deer. I put up the binos and right away I knew he was a decent buck. Problem was I was in the open with no rest and he saw me. 20' in front of me was a large rock, perfect for a rest. I decided to walk up to the rock and get a rest. A 250 yd off hand shot is not my favorite. After a short walk, I got a rest on the rock and the deer was still broadside. I put the cross hairs behind his shoulder and squeezed my 300 mag. When I shot, he bolted to the right. I kept the scope on him. He then started to run, boom, I touched one more off and he staggered and fell. The first one was a miss. The deer was 2.4 km from camp, and a 400 yd drag to the road, beats a long pack out. We left that night as it was 18C Temp.
