calling elk

Me and the wife have been pounding the bush and have had very little luck putting elk in the freezer. We have both tried to call and have had few replies or sightings, when we walk without calling we have seen elk, but have not be able to get shots. Any ideas? it is getting down to crunch time and even a cow will do. Any ideas on where to find cows? Dawson area.

I'm from Dawson, and just recently got my first elk ever. It was the only one I saw in the area that was legal, and I had been in the area a few times. I saw him twice. Guys told me to just use a cow call to bring them in. That's all I did, and I was done hunting in about 30 minutes. The week before, I tried bugling and heard stuff but they seemed to leave the area. They said that bugling will scare the little ones, and the bigger ones will take their cows and run. I saw a cow out towards Elliot Ranch area, and have heard of a few bulls being taken. Also, the Thomslake community pasture is supposed to have a bunch of elk.
