After heading out to try and find the brute that got away on me last week, Buckwheat and I hit the block right at last light Friday. Instantly we saw a cow and calf moose with 2 big stinking bulls close behind, If only I'd get one of them LEH thingy's!!!
Then the whole of Saturday and half of Sunday we didn't even see chickens, I never even fired the .22 once :-(
But then at near noon today, on a road directly behind the lakes in the Kane valley, Shane spots our first deer of the weekend. He thinks it's a bedded doe, but a close look shows that it's a 2pt with a huge fork rack. We put the moves on him for near 15 min and can't find him anywhere. Then suddenly I spot 2 deer running a ridge some 350yds away. Sure as hell, the one at the back his him. So I grab a small dia tree and try to get a steady rest. The first shot placed right on the top line of his back of the lead deer, hits the ground below his belly. It was much further than I first thought. The second shot a little higher nails him. He falls in his tracks and rolls some 50 yds back down the steep hill, him and his buddy were standing on.

Then after making our way back to camp and making tracks for home, Shane asks if he can hunt the road out. I told him "only if it's on the road!!!
Well, the damn kid stroked this 2x3 10yds inside the treeline. We bumped 3 more bigger deer as we went to recover him. They just stood there and watched as we screamed at them.

Not 1/2 klick after we again make for home, I near ran over a largish black bear, Shane hollering, "you've got a tag Dad!!" I didn't even touch the breaks, I've got enough to do this week.:lol:
Just goes to show, never give up.
