Well just got back from a 5 day hunt in 7-16, what a freaking free way!!! calves opened on the 1st and it was a highway coming in with camps everywhere.
We hunted hard, we had no draws so looking for a calf or 2 pt and scouting for future elk "honey holes" . we hit all the tough access spots that no one eles would, up early, did it all the right way and all we saw were BIG BULLS!! everyone we ran into had a bull draws except us yet we were the only ones seeing bulls, lol.... one would have been close to or maybe over 50"!! 4 brow tines!!
Anyways, for the first time in my hunting career i bought a blk bear tag and decided to take a decent bear, so quad into this beauty block, stop glass the swamp and block, look to my right and a nice bear is eyeballing us a 100 yards away, i take a knee, cross hairs under the chin and over the closest shoulder, squeeze my model 700 30-06....and off goes 165gr lightmag hornady interbond chunk of lead that absolutly levels the bear, we wait 5min.. no movement, get 10 yards away, see breathing, put another in the boiler room and Mr. bear comes unglued and starts barrel rolling and growling towards us!!! another quick shot stops all the kaos and the heart slowly returns to normal, lol... god they are tough, my 1st shot entered a little high (forgot my rifle is 1.5" high at 100) down the right cheek, all the way down the neck and exits behind the front leg (slight down hill shot) leaving a 6" exit hole and he still had fight in him, wow...
so hear he is, beautiful, long, thick fur, , not huge but an honest 5 footer who will make a nice 1st rug!!
