Hi all, just got back from up north hunting moose with my dad. Hunting was extremly tough with high winds and heavy rains everyday we were there. Not much moving and very tough to find any fresh moose sign.

Anyhow, on day 3, the weather was still crappy and dad and I settled down to make a little camp fire and cook up some lunch on a high hill side. Throughout the hour we were there, we continued to call, but no respones from any bulls in the area. Right near the end of our lunch, the winds calmed and the rain finally stopped! We got back on our atv and started heading towards camp. The very first clump of trees we come around I spotted a big bull coming down from the corner of a clearing towards the direction we just had our lunch. He spotted us at exactly the same time and froze. He had us pinned for sure! I quickly loaded up and found a rest. After a moment he started to walk towards the big trees and my dad gave a call which froze him there long enough for me to take the 280 yard up hill shot. First shot nailed him good, but I followed it up with a quick second which dropped him on the spot!

Shortly after that, the winds and rain returned and never quit for the 6 days we were there! But at least we came home with a great bull moose. This was my first moose and he had a 52 inch outside spread!

Here are a couple pics... cheers!

Great teamwork Showtime! You might be surprised when calling and "Nothing's moving" that if you stop, sit down for an extended period and call from that place that creatures do come in.... just not always at a fast pace. We have always said that the three keys to success are; Persist, Persist, and Persist !

That certainly deserves a "Well Done!" Excellent photographs also. Now you know why one should never hunt moose alone.

Thank for the fine remarks everyone!

He was a big bull, estimated around 1200lbs. But thats just a guess with no scale around. He took 2 days by atv to get out to our camp, which was 5km away on a skitter trail.

That is one Prime Bull!

I'd hazard a guess at his age being about 6.5 years old.

Being they are not in the rut yet, I would think you will get some great eating meat, and not just hamburger.

this bull had absolutley no smell on him yet. he wasn't ruttin yet. prime bull for eating!

WOW, that is a big bull, nice going. Being pre rut he will most assuredly make for fine eating with no funk or lost meat to bruising. way to go
