Gilmore and I, his dad and another friend went to investigate his Reg 3 LEH sheep tag on opening day. They got there the on Saturday, I rolled up early Sunday morning. They had split up to take a look, and only his dad saw some rams, that had disappeared. Further investigation was required.
We spent most of the rest of the morning trying to locate the group of 4 rams he had seen. After a fruitless search, we headed back for some breakfast at about 11AM. Breakfast was great, especially as I didn't have to cook it.
We headed back out, and finally the rams were located, a long way away.

We kept watching them for awhile as they milled around, feeding. 2 looked legal, but hard to tell how big they were.
Eventually they started moving in the other direction, away from us. We headed back out quickly, to get ahead of them. When we arrived, we expected tat we would have to wait until they showed up. Well, they moved a little faster than we thought and were right under us!

We had the luxury of checking them out at 150 yards. One, maybe 2 were legal.

An easy shot presented itself at the largest ram

We had been sitting quietly for about 20 minutes observing the rams and taking pictures, and when we determined the legality, he asked me what I thought and I said I thought he should be sure it's the ram he wants.
But it was opening day, and he wasn't quite what Gilmore was looking for, (which I agreed with) so we packed up and hiked back up the to the top, and that was the end of opening day sheep hunting!
