Howdy everyone here at huntingbc, i am a new hunter as of this year and just learning all the "ropes" of hunting. My question is, what do most people do with the hide of a deer after skinning? do most people throw it away or is there a practical use for it?

Turf deer usually but I'll be keeping one nice one if I get one soon. Bears on the other hand, I've got a list of friends that would like a throw rug.

Think I saw an advertisement in the Hunting regs about someone collecting hides-can't remember where or for what.. I had one hide tanned, turned out awesome.

I haven't scoured this years regs but there used to be an ad for a company that bought hides. Don't know how much.

I usually turf them as well but I'll save a few chunks for fly tying. I also saved a 1/4 elk hide with the intention of making a native style drum.

Turf some. Any nice big ones I cape and give to the taxi or friends needing a cape.
