I still have not filled my mountain goat leh for the Kitimat area. I was going to go in Jan but due to the political fight against PM PM's handgun ban I haven't had a chance to think about going until Feb now.

The area that my draw is good for is due west and north of Kitimat stopping just north of the Kitimat river where it pass's across the highway.

Is there anyone out there with any idea where to hunt at this time of year? How is the snow level? Are the animals down low now or are they up high?

Thanks for any info,
Cam

I got a draw not far from yours and am in contact with people from there. I just talked a contact in Terrace and there is not much snow yet. The billies are high and not easy to reach right now. Stay in touch and I'll let you know what I know.

Depending on what elevation you will be hunting there may or may not be snow.
Valley bottom: none
up to 700M: 30 to 50cm
700M to 1100M: 50 to 120cm
1100M to 1800M: 120 to 300+cm

Good luck with your hunt!

I talked to a friend in Kitimat and one in Terrace, they both said it is snowing today but the goats are still high. Can you confirm that?
The Terrace ski hill isn't open either ??? They said.

moved from terrace 5 years ago, this is a very poor year for snow, I talked to my sister (Terracite) today and there is light snow falling and rain in the forecast, higher elevations still will have snow. shames hill is not open and apparently no word on when it will open. hunted the little weedene fsr in the past with no luck, hope you fare better than I did in the past, for goats I like the area north of hiway 16 region 6-15 lots of sub-regions with good odds on the leh draws.

I think you should not wait for the snow. I have tried this pratice in the past and do not like hunting like that, although I know people that wait for snow and are very successful. I like the view from up top and added safety feature of good traction. I don't know the area near Kitimat but I do know it somewhat between Rupert and Terrace.

Sorry for not getting back sooner but I have been away. The ski hill opens this week. There is now snow to valley bottom with the Kitimat area receiving a good shot of snow as we speak. Since my last post, there is considerably more snow so winter is very officially here.
Good luck!
