Ill try to keep the drama short and the pics heavy!
We headed north a week earlier than normal, arrived for a week or rain :-(.
We hunted hard, hiking 5-7km's every morn and eve. Sign was very minimal, and the elk wernt talking :-(.
On day 3 we got into a major scream fest with a large herd bull, after an hour and a half over 50 bugles each we closed the distance to 60 yards but he never gave us the shot, the wind swirled and they were gone :-(.
Hope was fading, but near the end of a morning hike on day 7 this guy showed up silent, our cannons broke the silence and we had our bull .

Lots of work to get him out, never even used a quad for once! We got him to the butcher fast as the rain quit and the heat rolled in, 28 that afternoon .
We decided we didnt need another elk, so we just chilled, camped and relaxed for 3 days!

Our dog had the time of his life out there!

We were camped with 3 old guys who Ive known and hunted with since I was a teenager, of the 3, these 2 both bagged their first elk! (both 6 pointers as well) Huge congrads to them!!!

Overall, hunting was very slow, we did a drive of the entire area we hunt, saw about 8 hunting camps, some with 5 or more guys, only 1 other elk rack to be seen!
Many camps left skunked, so we did OK!

Nice work! I love it when you get your bull with a few days to spare. You can switch to bird hunting and fishing. It rounds the trip off nice.

Congrats Mark, Moosinaround and I were wondering how you did. Certainly was quiet up there for the bugling buggers.

well done! with "elk talk being sporadic at best" you certainly deserve your just rewards, warm weather ,rain, morning lists and heavy fog, all combined make it hard to get any momentum happening with bugling elk so far this year!

Way to be Mark! Yah I bailed after day 2 of the downpour. Was quiet for elk, had only 2 bulls return calls, and only one come in to play! We had been there for 5 days prior to the rains, so our spirits were dwindling!lol My son and I covered a lot of geography, and had a blast so it was a terrific trip for that. Where were you guys camped? Took a drive to look for yah, but couldn't find yous! Anyways congrats again, see you up there next year!! Maybe that will be the year for me? Moosin
