Left Dodge City with a buddy Sept. 10th. I headed out with a Stones tag and caribou tag, and Kent, a non-resident caribou tag as he is from Alberta.
The trip came with more than its share of excitement due to having an earlier trip screwed up by twisting my ankle playing slow-pitch. Stoopid game...but nice cool refreshments afterwards...
Although hearing reports of some sheep hunters that had been out at the beginning of the season, all was not lost, due either to hot weather, little water, or smokey conditions. That helped subside the cravings to be on the sheep hills (as did reading Great Rams I and Great Rams II several times).
After a long day and checking out the Liard Hotsprings, we made the short drive back to the trail head and set up the tent for the night.
We got this fella on the way in to where we wanted to get to. The planets lined up again!

One of my biggest fears is getting hurt just before a major hunt. Glad you could heal up in time. Nice ram.

Nice going with that ram! Goes to show that sometimes it can happen quick . . . but most times not. What about the caribou tags given you were done so early?

Well done, beauty sheep! And I though from all the threads here that the Wilderness Wanderer was not acceptable for sheep hunting anymore...

Morning all, thanks for the kudos...still smiling after a whirlwind of a trip. The caribou tags got put on the backburner as we wanted to make sure the cape and meat were kept. She was warming up the day we came out and did not want to take any chances. And time was short. We only had until yesterday.
In hindsight, we both shuddered at the thought of bringing out a caribou on our backs the distance we were in, and, especially, the way the thermometer was going.
Brent....Hotsprings? What Hotsprings? Did I mention Hotsprings? LOL! We travelled thru the day, late enough to not start hiking, but not too late to go check 'em out. And where we went in was, shall I say, nearby....
Yes, the 'ol WWanderer. I included that in the title as it has served me very well over the years. I have looked at the new packs out there, and am impressed. But right now, this pack has performed well for several years, and numerous multi day trips.
It is showing signs of wear, a strap here and there are getting close to needing replacement. Understandable.
I love how it stands on it's own for putting on and taking off. This same feature of the external frame is awesome for occasionally lifting the weight off one's shoulders and hips by simply reaching back and lifting on the frame, while walking.

I'd imagine when u connect Carl...it'll be a gooder...four more months and we're there for another round. Will miss the north country this year, and as Wade mentioned, head south for bighorns. Although talking with a buddy the other day....i think i could be pretty easily swayed to go back into Stone's country. Can't get enough of it! Triple header? Hmmmm....LOL...
