Hey Guys, lucked out this past weekend (Sat morning) on my LEH hunt in 7-16C...came across 2 bulls fighting and was presented a shot 20 minutes or so later. 200 meters level with no wind - dropped in his tracks on the old logging road in the middle of the cut block (gotta love that!). Using a 300WM with 180gr Nosler A/B's.

First time I've ever seen two bulls fighting - amazing sight. My son (14) was with me and had a great time...great learning experience. The antlers aren't huge (it's 46 1/2" wide at widest point) but I'm really happy (always bittersweet!). Looks like almost 800lbs of meat on the butcher's scales (bones still in).

Moved to PG 3 yrs ago and did get a calf first year - this is the first bull ever and only 2nd moose - an amazing experience.

Do have pics, but says it's too big to upload, any advice?

Thanks!

Note title of the thread, this was his first LEH draw, calves are GOS up here. Either way he was drawn for 7-16 C which usually has the highest odds around here so you do need some horeshoes to get it!

Good work on the bull - best place to drop a moose - on the road! They are a ton of work either way, but nice to have it close to the truck! Congrats.

Thanks All for the congrats!

Re processing, we lucked out - the butcher had lots of available space still, so when we called at 0730, he said we could bring it straight in and he would look after the skinning/quartering if we wanted.

We winched it over an embankment (field dressed while on the 'up' side - gravity helping us) then parked my buddy's 1-ton truck with the open tailgate on the 'down' side of the embankment - winched it over the bank and down into the truck bed (ran the winch cable at a slight angle over the sides of his truck - protected with a block of wood) - had to winch it all the way in - couldn't budge him with three of us. We were two hours from town, arrived at the butcher by 1130 - racing the heat, but we gott'er done!

HeY congrats to all, very cool to experience plus the fight as a bonus.

You might want to clarify all your pricing with the butcher ....... some are what they are called .... and will charge you through the nose for skinning etc.

That said there are some great game processors out there too .....
I try do do as much as I can Myself, never taking in bone, at 60 cent a pound it gets pricey ..... but warm weather presses your time.

Again, congrats too you and your boy, great to hear youngsters getting into our great sport.
