I thought I would throw my name and cell number out to those who would be travelling through PG in case any of you run into unplanned and unexpected problems while on your hunting trips this fall. There is nothing worse than running into problems when you are a long ways away from home and sometimes when you are in those situations a helping hand is nice. This is not for those people who abuse offers of assistance and take a helping hand and don't respect it, if you fall in that category I am a good judge of character and the helping hand will be taken away. I am a very busy person but if I am around and you need a hand don't be afraid to call at all.

It is just common courtesy and unfourtunately it is hard to find nowadays. There are some really good people on this site that I have no doubts would offer the same gesture. It would be nice to see a sticky list maybe that if you wanted to offer the same your name and number could be put on it and a person could print it off and take it with them. For you folks travelling from the lower mainland there are alot of towns you travel through and you never quite know when a problem will arise along the way. Even if all a person needs is directions or guidance to a mechanic shop or parts store, every little bit helps.

Doesn't surprise me that a guy from Prince George would do this. (I lived there for my first 28 years)

Good for you Shane. I hope you have an awsome and safe hunting season.

Shane,
Very nively done. If you get to the island or the rock as we call it, give me a call. WELL, maybe I'll pm you with the details. I really don't want Jelvis to know where the actual good deer hunting is on the rock.

hey shane good on ya buddy, the wife and i offered our travel trailer to any hbc'ers here in kelowna during the fires this year on the west side.i know how good the karma is that follows those who are un selfish and help with those random acts of kindness. your gesture is doly noted and i have your number jotted down for the "just in case stuff".
the wife and i will be traveling through the pg area either friday night or early saturday morning on our way up to 7-23 for our shared moose/grizz hunt and even though i think i have covered pretty much anything that can go wrong ya never know when murphy's law may rear his ugly mug so its nice to know that there are others out there willing to give un-selfishly.

Yeah... ditto on the 'Good on Ya!' Shane.

Us hunters need to stick together; we are a fraternity of humans compelled to resist certain forces of modernization that would see all humans stop hunting.
We are all driven by an intense need to maintain that primordial connection with where it was that we came from, what it was that made us - hunting.

The likes of you are welcome in my camp anytime Shane.

Good on yah Shane... its guys like you and a fellow I met back a couple of seasons just above the Gang (Fraser River) Bridge a couple of seasons back ... there I was fully loaded stopped to glass the ridges... and when I went to restart the truck nothin... Along come this fellow up from taking the river boat out and he stops ... I explain the scenario and he crawls under my F150 has a quick look... asks for visegrips (gotta havem to fix things) he says get under here with me and tells me to vise grip the solenoid wire back on and head for town. Turned over the truck and passed him a half-sac of beer and away he went. Thanks to him and thanks to you for helping those of us who might need the extra hand.

Good on ya, its a small world so you never know when your gonna run into someone you helped out in the future. More people need to be like you. And I second stickying a list for people but maybe putting a post count restriction of like 50 so it doesn't get abused by people who aren't overly active in this community

We were rolling into PG a number of years ago with a truck and quad trailer coming back from Pink Mnt, was dam near dark and the alternator gave out on the north side of town, well traffic is getting heavier, it's getting dark and we have no dam headlites!!! A truck pulls up beside us and yells Follow Me, so we do and he escorts us all the way down the hill into town and finds us a nice place to park. Him and his buddys are into trucks, find the problem and offer to go get us a Alternator from one of there trucks so we can get home!!! We ended up staying in a near by motel and got the parts the next day. Nicest guys you ever met!!! Good for you Shane, we need more people like yourself! M.Dean

I was moose hunting in 7-16 about ten years ago and we nailed a calf moose and were on our way back to town. We were just about back in PG (about 2 hours from the kill site) and this guy cuts in front of us and jams his brakes on gets out and starts screaming at us for stealing his wifes moose. Turns out his wife shot a cow that morning didn't know what to do when it came to dressing it and headed back to town to get him (about a 5 hour trip total). Anyways we had some very heated words and I showed him that a calf is smaller than a cow, but he was fired up and left me with not very kind words.

Fast forward 3 years.....I was way up in the Otter Lake country and come upon a guy whose throttle cable broke on his truck. Got the tools out and rigged it up so he could limp back to town. It was the same guy who threatened me 3 years earlier. He says I reconize you and I reminded him from where. He apologized for the episode 3 years earlier we shook hands and carried on.

It is amazing how small this world can be sometimes.

There ain't enough of the good guys any more and it seems most people are looking out just for themselves.

Good for you Shane for reaching out and offering a helping hand.

I think most of us have been in a predicament from time to time and a helping hand goes a long way to turn a negative situation into a positive one.
