We just recently returned from our annual early moose hunt, what a bust, we were there for almost three weeks and only spotted one bull moose the entire trip. There were lots of mule and white tailed deer spotted...and more than a few elk starting to bugle as August came to an end. So to make a boring story more interesting we switched to elk mode on September 1st and came home with this.

A nice 4x5 Peace Region bull elk for our efforts. On the morning of September 2nd I drove the atv down to where I had been hearing quite a few elk and as the light was coming up I heard a short bugle from the poplar grove on the far side of the old cut that I was on. I gave a short locator bugle on the new power bugle and with a quick check on the wind direction started moving in on the vocal elk.....quite to my surprise he ran right out in the open looking for the intruder in his area. With a quick shot from the new Ruger 338 [thanks pitchedlink - CGN] the job was done, and then the work began. Also got to break in the new drop point skinner from Blacktail Designs.....not on bullwinkle like I told him, but who is complaining!!
