My first buck was in the Opax/Wheeler area. Walked into two bucks sparing and two more watching. I shot mine and it ran right into the opening I shot from, right past me and dropped 20 yds away, closer to the road of all things. It was a 4X3 about 26 years ago.

I've spent coutless hours in the Wheeler,Opax,Mud Lake,Sawmill,Watching Creek,Rushton,Lane Cr,Noble Lk and all points in between. There are a ton of bucks in those hills, including a few Booners is you put in time. I may have even taken one of the first Whitetail taken around Kamloops. Back in the day, when we just bought a deer tag, because there were no Whitetail here, I shot one just off of Isobel Lk. I asked at Lees guncraft if he had ever heard of a whitetail around Kamloops and he laughed. I've been hunting around here for 27 years, there are no whitetail around here. Well I got one before any logging took place around Isobel or Noble. Now they are quite common to get a glimpse of. The buck by the way was a 4X4, not big but another first for me

Got a slight quiz for the local Kamloops hunter's of big game and or others who hunt up Lac Dubois but came in from the valley or the wonderful Islands. For big bucks and moose -- I dig it.
Where up behind batch on the Lac Du Bois road through the park can thy discharge a rifle from the side of the said road @ the Km distance of what to what and where to where and so many metres off the road before firing a shot at a whitetail or mule deer -- ?
I like Opax just above Mud Lake and all along the side of Opax --
Talk about shoot restrictions

Let's come out of the dark and into the bucks close to Griffin Lake I want to turn right just past McQueen lake to the right. Go in til you hit Griffin lake and in the middle just past it now you can blast away ..
Tell me your tales on the trails and just beyond Griffin Lake into, "Back Yard Muley Bucks."
I'm going up there to hunt anyways so spill the beans and the tomato sauce on Griffin Mountain
jelly -- Griffin for a biggin .. Hit me .. Spill the Beans

Jelly, isn't Griffin the little lake on your right on your way to Isabel? If so, you need to make it to the fork in the road and stay to the right. The hieght of land is the border on your left for rifle discharge or you can bowhunt closer to Isobel

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can discharge a rifle once you pass the 5km mark as that is the city boundary. Once you reach the 14 km mark you are reaching the McQueen Lk area and no shooting for three km, then again as you are around Pass Lk you're in a no shooting stretch of the road. Beyond that you can shoot anywhere you want.

You are right Caveman except from 5 k to 14 km you are mostly on Private land within the Park and would need permission to hunt.

shotgunner spraying the information out like a open choked 12 gauge with number 7 shot.
shoot gun says 5 to 14 is private land within the park and you need some authorization.
Jel .. What does the local yokel Caver think of that ... Man? .. T or F?
I see some doubt creeping inn.

It's not MOSTLY private land. The private land begins just before Lac du Bois (so about 8KM from the 5Km mark) and continues to basically the McQueen no shooting area for a total of 2km roadside of private land. Here's a map with the private land with the little squares with lines through it. (post #5)

you can hunt there, just no vehicle access. its owned by the natural conservatory of canada, or something like that, and i asked about the area all around lac du bois last year. i was told that you are allowed to hunt there. shot a buck in there last year too.

I haven't spent a bunch of time around there lately, but as Brian0111 says, it is vehicle restricted and has been for a fair # of years, but I don't ever recall a no trespassing or no hunting sign. I have run into people back there and never have I been told hunting is prohibited. It was the protection of the grasslands and such, that spawned the vehicle restrictions. Just north of Lac de Bois lake is where you hit the McQueen Lake no shooting area and that is all I believe you'll find. Therefore I still will stand up for any other posts I've put out there for this area, until it's posted otherwise
