:D Just a general question for hunters in the Okanagan...I'm not asking for any great spots or anything, but I was wondering if there's a good population of whitetails just east of Kelowna (Postill area, Idabel Lake area, etc) or if it's primarily muley country. I've always gone to hunt them in the Christian Valley, but now with family obligations I was wondering if there were good numbers of them close by, or if I need to get into the Penticton area before I'd find a good whitetail population. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Locals would know better, but we had no success 2 years ago in November for whitetails on Posthill lake rd. The deer were in peoples yards, not anywhere you could hunt them. My 2 cents.

There is a decent population on most of the FSR off of highway 33....Trapping Creek is good but also sees a lot of hunting pressure.

Like Shantz said, check out any FSR or backcountry and you'll find whiteys. Check out some of Jelvis's posts he'll point you in the right direction. All in all not too hard to find unless you're going for a trophy!

Go up McCulloch Road from Kelowna to Hydraulic Lake. Lots of them up there.

i hear ya about the family thing. close is good. are you looking for a good hike or a quad track to explore? spend enough time in postil or mcculloch and you will put a hole in a whitey buck.

Remember, both McCulloch and Postill (and Beaver/Dee too) are gazetted roads, so:

- no quads at any time on the main road
- be 15 meters from the middle of the road before you crack cap

hey fd first off, nice buck!! isn't bear also maintained ie.. no quads or shooting?

Thanks. One day I should enter him in the BC book.

No, Bear is an FSR all the way from 1 km. The Ministry of Highways (or whatever the hell they are called these days) doesn't maintain Bear, Tolko does. Feel free to crack cap, but watch out for all those logging trucks!

:D Thanks Guys, sounds like the roads/trails off McCulloch, Hydraulic, and maybe Postill have whitetails, but you can't shoot while on the main roads if you see one...and yeah Thatguy, I don't mind hiking and quadding...

I might be losing it but that picture looks like it was taken right in our backyard. That's where we take the horses all the time.
