I realize people are very guarded about their hunting spots but im looking for some help. Im brand new to the Okanagan area and have been scouting hard off the 201 FSR in the Carmi-Ellis Road area. Looking for Elk and Mulie. Lots of Mulie sign.......no elk! Am I in the right place?? Any suggestions?? Thanks guys!

Lots of mulie's on both side of Okanagan Lake. Harder to find the bucks, which are usually higher up. Also seen a buck around the lakes off Sunset turn off at the Connector. Otherwise, I believe it is even harder to hunt mulies up that country than around the Okanagan Lake.

I have seen lots of sign of elks on the eastern slopes of Okanagan Lake, just north of Naramata, between the road and the KNR rail line. However, its very dense forrest, and unless you succesfully call, you might not see any. Going from Chute lake and towards the park also have lots of deer and elk signs.

Also check out the Rock Creek area. Lots of mulie's, white-tails, and hunters :)

Mulie's like to come out and feed along the timber line at dusk and dawn.

With this warm weather we have been having if you want to find Elk look for an area that has some dark timber(North Exposure) and water.Get off the beaten track and do some serious hiking. With the cooler weather on the way the Elk should start talking.Good Luck.

There are elk in those regions mentioned. Few and far but they are there. Don't let these people push you away.

Also, if you have a access to a boat, I am told that there is a healty mulie population at the park across the lake from Peachland. Mulies like areas that have had a resent forest fire, which firtilize the soil with ash, and I have noticed that mulies and other ungulates like to forrage on the new crop of plants comming through the ash. The fire also opens up the forrest, so it is easier to spot deer and perhaps the elk at the park.

I would also think that the road accessable burned area south of Kelowna should now have an healty deer/elk populalation ? Should be worth checking out ?

Always lots of people padling in Chute lake, as well as hiking along the lake. Not the best placed to hunt in my opinion. The surrounding area does look interesting, in particular if one has the stamina to hike up and into the Okanagan Park, which has no road access. I gave up hunting this park, because I did not want to drag anything out of there. I am certain, because of no road access to the park, there is plenty of deer and elk there. I have seen lots of deer/elk/moose track leading into the park, which I believe is open for hunting.

I think Fiddler's Green got burned pretty good by the fire. Haven't been in there in a number of years...the blowdown was brutal last time in behind the meadows...maybe that's why I haven't been back!

we always had elk in there...by the looks of the photo there is still some green left as well most of the old blowdown will be cleaned out...it is a prime area to connect with a bull if you have a strong back and a weak mind.......

There is NO open season for Elk where you've looking for.Only for people

Make sure you wear 'hunter-orange' while you're out. Lots of pressure around region 8 in the valley. Looks like the bar at 2am; everyone wants to try to get a peice of the action. Try working your way further south towards/near the US border, east side of the highway, but that's the best I'll do for you. Know of a 198" mulie that came out of there last year and a 192" the year before that.
