I just spoke with the taxidermist that I sent my buck to. He scored it at 165 6/8. Does anyone know what ussually comes out of the Okanogan? It's my only whitetail so obviously my biggest. I can't wait to get it back! In 14 months. . .

Note: I already went through the whole pictures thing with you guys and I don't have any digitals so I'll have to take some when I get it back.

Monster for sure. Good shooting. Ex girlfriend's dad got a 178 1/8" last year. That was a nice trophy. Show us some pics!

That's a really good buck no matter where you hunt. Was that a Net or Gross score? Could definitly be a once in a life time deer.

Oh yeah its not nice to go talking about big deer without pictures:wink: Not that we doubt you, we just wanna see big deer, thats all:redface:

Where can I find B.C. record book scores or listings on the net?

This is there website but, they only list the minimums, so you'll have to buy a book or talk to someone who has one.

Seth

It is a typical but now I have to wait to get it back to have it "officially" scored. Man I waish I had some digitals to put on here.

I learned first hand how much your score can drop from Gross to Net. I just about cried when I did mine.
If you have a 165 Net deer that is a Awesome deer, Hell even a 165 gross deer is fantastic.

Hurry up with the Pictures eh, Beg, borrow or steal a digital camera, get er done:smile:

I don't have the head anymore. He's at the taxidermist for the next 14 months. The buck has served its 60 day drying period because I got him in early October and he was just scored on the 17th of Dec. but for those two months between he was in my freezer so I'm not sure if that effects the drying period. I've been told it doesn't so the 165 6/8 should be close to the net.

if the 60 day part is done then get the antlers from the tax guy and get it OFFICIALLY scored! then get him registered with the record books. dont wait do it!

I have no idea how the whole tax. thing works. will the antlers be off the mount and available for me to have scored? Marc, do you know of anyone on the island who can score these for me if I can get them back soon? Why can't I have them scored when I get the mount back?

ya u can grab them from the taxedermist....they cape them out then cut the skull down and stuff it on a styofoam head...the longer u wait the more it shrinks :D

hi seth.who is doing your deer mount.?

Thunderstix

The scorer has to be able to see the skull to prove it is intact for the width measurement and to confirm it is a matched set of antlers.

I'm not sure of any official score takers you might want to contact the victoria fish and game club and ask them if any of their members can do it.

Marc.

I've gone thru the same thing with my 2004 typical mule deer. After the taxidermist has caped the mount you can get it from him for easily four or five months or until you are tired of tripping over it (ya right) As far as a scorer especially if it could make the book get ahold of the Trophy Wildlife Records Club Of British Columbia to get a list of official scorers in your area if your taxidermist can't tell you. www.wildliferecordsofbc.com (http://www.wildliferecordsofbc.com) or p.o. box 22

Anyone interested in seeing a couple of shots of my buck I just downloaded pictures to the gallery titled 196 5/8 gross typ 179 7/8 net
My biggest to date and still waiting for the mount from my taxidermist, 12 months and counting. Should have done what a buddy did tell the taxidermist I needed the mount back or a games award dinner he had his back in about two months - next time I'll know

I shot a Whitetail in October of '05 but didn't have any digital pics to post so I just got him back from the taxidermist and I'd thought I'd post these pics to put all those who called B.S. to rest. . . I had him scored as stated previously in this thread at 165 6/8 which I'm more than happy with. It's going to be hard for me to beat in the future but I won't stop trying!

Hopefully these pictures will show up below . . .

From Texas to Saskatchewan to BC, 165 white is still a great buck.

You shouldn't have any problem getting ur horns from ur Taxi guy, he might be happy to give them to you as he doesn't have to trip over them, remember he has a big pile stored up. If I get a book contender or one for competition I will measure the inside spread and place a board inside to keep it from shrinking in. You are not altering the rack in any way but trying to keep it natural. 3 years ago I took a 47" moose then through him under the deck and now he measures 43 1/2". He wasn't a contender for anything so it doesn't matter to me how much he shrank (is that even a word). Deer don't shrink a lot, you loose most of it on the inside spread. So get that 2x4 in there, let it sit and get him measured. A reminder, don't even try and make the spread to big, if you do you run the risk of splitting the skull plate and then you don't have a score at all. Its ur call.

Congrats to ya on a fine buck.

Merry Christmas and good health to all.

Here's what a 81" shed would have looked like if it had a chance to hit the ground. Left side went over 81". Too bad the right side didn't match the left.

Ya that background is a dead giveaway, most guys that venture to the praries come home with smaller bucks than that!

yes! to bang a hammer like that is sweet. to bang a hammer like that here in BC is twice as sweet!

Here's a 82 inch whitey shed. I see some similarities to your buddy's buck Brent. This guy wasn't picked up on those hill's in the background tho..:)
