My son is wanting to shoot his first deer. He shoots with 26 inch draw lenght and pulls 45 lb's with his Edge. What type of broadhead should he use?

depends .... what kind of speed does he get ... what is his current tip weight

Personally I would try to find a quality fixed head as close to his normal tip weight that he shoots with the arrows he is using ....

Slick Tricks, Montecs, Rocky Mtn Premeire or Titanium are all quality heads

something in a cut on contact fixed blade broadhead. i shoot montecs and really like them.there are lots of good brands out there.i would recomend against a mechanical head but thats just my oppinion.its very important that he gets the broadheads and has his bow tuned to shoot them perfectly.

I'd suspect that he's shooting 85 grain field tips? I suggest the same weight in a Slick Trick, a Montec, or a Muzzy of some sort.

If he's not shooting 85 grains - then I'd switch to that weight.

Before I switched to mec's I used thunder heads and had no problem with them.

As for the speed I will have to find that out. His field tips are 85 gains.
How many blades should the broadheads have?
Thanks for the info.

Most of the mentioned heads come in a 3 blade design ... that is suffcient

Dont worry about the speed I was just curious to work out the amount of KE ....

But if you really want to know ... you will need to find out total arrow weight and speed

How many blades?

There has been a ton of research done on the most effective killing broadhead design by a lifelong addict named Dr. Ed Ashby. His recommendation(s) are for a 2-bladed head, and deadly sharp.

BUT - shot placement is still the key.
