Not until it cools.
If any sweating takes place inside the bag,the hide will be ruined.

What About No Bag Just Straight To Water Then Dry Then Flesh And Salt

Best to skin the cape off, and Salt right away, water can make things real slimmy and hard to deal with.
If this is new to any one, it's best to talk directly to your taxidermist as to not loose some thing you may call a trophy of a lifetime, slippage is a nasty way to ruin a beautiful mount. It's never the same with some one else's cape.

Water is your enemy,it promotes bacteria and causes slippage.Like curly top said the best way to handle it would be to cape it out completely and salt it well. Also a good idea to turn the lips, eyes ears and nose before salting to ensure good salt coverage

I've had goat and sheep capes that needed water to get the blood out. Shake off as much water as possible. Lay on slope if possible and salt well over nite. This should help it drain well.
Next day shake salt off onto tarp or plastic and hang cape in a shady and hopefully breezy spot. When it seems dry enough reaply your salt. If you have access to fresh salt the more the better. Roll up when finished and put in a gunny sack or onion sack so it can breath. You might need to use a plastic bag to carry out in your pack but get it out of there as soon as possible.

just go straight to flesh and salt, if it's a bloody cape do as sillybear. maybe towel dry if it's an option.

Not sure why you want to cool it down, more importantly is to get it dry with salt or frozen.

dont need to cool down cape -- u should use about 20 pounds of salt on the cape then fold it in on itself flesh to flesh to little salt hair will still fall out -- more salt the better

20 lbs???? That's not what my taxidermist told me. Unless you're caping a giant moose?
