I didn't post this earlier because I wanted to have the compulsory inspection done and be in "legal possesion" of the bear, anyways that's done, so here's the story and pics. I got this guy on the same day I got my moose, (see "my 2009 moose thread") so it was quite a day. Not much of a story to this one, just driving down the road and there he was eating blueberries up on an embankment... BANG....flop. Not a very big grizzly, we paced him off at a little under six feet, sure had a big head and feet though. If you're wondering how we got him in that pose, he's a little rigored:-D. We tried the tenderloins the next night and they were awesome, his belly was full of berries, it looked like jam and smelled like blueberry pie. Thanks again to Jay and Joel for the help! Here he is.

That would be one hell of a full mount just as he sits. Well done, and thanks for the note on the table fare, one of these days I'd like to try some myself.

Comment not worth quoting!!

When you finally get an LEH, pay $80.00 dollars for a tag and have only 3 more days left in your hunt, you take what you can get :biggrin:!

Sounds like a great hunt! Beauty lookin' bear. It must have been exciting for you. Have you seen many grizz before?

For field judging, they say that often young grizz have dark legs and grizzled backs. As they get older most get more uniform in color. When a bear has that contrast it is a sign to double check the size. Even sitting way back there, you look bigger than that grizzer...

He definately is not a big griz, that's for sure . Like I said we paced him off at little under six feet (I'm only 5'7") so we're probably close to the same height. The fellow who did the inspection on him said he had big teeth for having a small body. Anyways the important thing is he was a legal shooter.

Shoot whatever whatever makes you happy. I know how hard it is to field judge bears and thought that it was good info when I heard it... Is that what you expected when you walked up to him?

He certainly looked bigger from a distance. We did see another griz a couple of days earlier about 2 hundred yards from our camp , he had the same coloring but was a fair bit bigger, he disappeared too quickly to get a shot at.:icon_frow

I guarantee you that EVERY bear hunter has experienced ground shrinkage before... IMO, they are the hardest animals to judge.

You got a tag, you got a grizzly. You gotta be happy!! And a beauty moose as a bonus.
Sounds like a trip that most would gladly take.

Congratulations.http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif
