if you can find the road system that goes between pike mountain and the princeton airport and with a little bit of luck you should be able to find them

Highly qualified and experienced local elk hunters, on four trax, keep an eye all the time, and hunt for the few bull elks during the hunting season in the Princeton area, with mixed results.

I know about elk hunters from Princeton, who goes somewhere else, when hunting elk.

There are estimated about four legal bull elks around Princeton at any given time, for about 3500, mostly out of town hunters.

When bugling for elk in the Princeton area, you are certain to bugling in other hunters, which are fun to watch, the way they sneak in on you, in full camo :)

this is true, those are princeton elk in the pics. I dont think I would waste to much time on them though. They open on the 25 and I dont think they are calling to much then.

There are lots of elk around Princeton. I have counted 17 elk in one herd there. Herds of couple hundred elks, will pass through during the winter. Again, lots of hunters from the coast, and very few legal bull elk around. Never seen one myself. Few local hunters, with some yearlong "insider informations" from other locals, appears to be the one's who bags those bull elk around Princeton.

The elk hunting around Princeton is very spotty.I took two bulls in the mid 90's when it was 3 point or better, but none since. There are far better chances for an elk and combo hunt in the Koot's or Peace regions.

The reaon those elk were in that field at the time were because some a-hole had gone into the bush above that field and shot the 6pt that was there, stampeding the herd into the lower ground. A friend of mine owns the property, and boy, was he ever pissed. Dickheads like that give us all a bad name. The guy, a local, said he didn't know he was on private land. He's lived here for a long time and I'd find it pretty hard to believe he didn't know exactly what he was doing.

No Elk To Be Found

The only time I have seen elk in the open country in Princeton area, is outside hunting season. Most of the time, the elks stay in or close to dense forrest, and come out only at night.

During the six point only hunting season, they put on their "cloaking device" and simply vanish out of sight. Bugling will only bring in other elk hunters :)

Elk

There are Elk near Princeton.

I have seen lots of sign on Sunday Summiit and Friday mountain FSR.

June 08 I took a picture of one cow at Sunday Summit FSR as she slipped into the bush. Defintitely an Elk, but I had the small camera without the telephoto
so its a poor photo.

I can email you the pictuire if you like.

But yes, there are Elk out there, not as thick as up north or the Kootenays.

The Hembrie Mtn herd are on provate land, and the various owners in the area don't allow anyone on their land to shoot one. One local poached a big bull up there last year and got nailed but good. Don't even thing about going there as it is heavily watched and if you're caught they will charge you.
