Campbell River open for Pink Retention

Campbell River opened for Pink Salmon today. I was there at 5:00 am. Had one on first cast, caught my limit and was leaving at 6:00 am. Very good. Bought a new pressure cooker last week and looking forward to canning next weekend.

Salmon on a fly?-sounds fantastic!I know how they fight on trolling gear-they must put on a show with flytackle

you know, im heading up to Campbell river tomorrow for a meeting at 9am. I might have to go a little bit further north and try my hand at some river fishing.

Best fly? . . . any bit of pink or green sparkly on a #6 hook. Easy and fun to catch.

well ive never river or for that matter fresh water fished before,

so i am going to be using a pink spoon and a spin caster in some still or slow moving water.

any other methods using limited resources i should consider?


Can you fish on the underside of the "Duncan main bay road" bridge? on Google earth it looks like that turns into a gravel road on the other side of the river. park over on the gravel, walk back and down underneath looks like some land protrudes into the river a bit for a spot to stand.

I used to get laughed at in the 80's fishing for them with my trout fly gear in the moderate flow water across from RiverSportsman. Now it's the thing to do. Put a fly deep into the heavy water on the store side and old Walter Tyee would spool yah.

Yeah it was good again today. Like a ghost town at 5 am but by 6:30 when I was leaving with my limit there was quite a crowd. Gope if you come up its not hard to find a place to fish its harder to fins a place to park..lol.

Anyways just pulled my first couple of cases of canned salmon outta the cooker- had to open one up to try- like butter I say!
