The Ministry has a test online and a video that's available through their offices to borrow.

Can probably find details by searching @ www.gov.bc.ca

If you have an MU and sub unit somebody might even be able to help you with where to go.

Good luck!

Here's the one from the BC hunting regs that GG mentioned.

Usually billies aren't with the nannies and kids.

If your hunting them early, before the rut, dont waist your time looking for a billy in a big group of goats or if there are kids around. Look for a lone goat or a few grown up goats in a group. Then look for all the traits of a billy, curved horns scent glands not much space between the horns. If you watch for a little while it might take a piss which will show if its a billy or a nanny. which part of the koots do you have your tag for?

Good question. I have the same problem!

I have a draw for region 3-36, and will do some scouting over the next weekends, but I'm trying to find good resources on the web. I'm mostly looking for hunting techniques and animal biology/behaviour.

There is a book written by Valerius Geist which will be available... I guess, just after the hunt! I have read some articles from him on mule deer biology, and was able to observe some of his findings in the field as true. Too bad his book will probably be just too late for me ... this year.

Anybody knows of any good web resources? or books? The online test for Nanny vs Billy identification was one good tool.

Thanks,

JF

Biilies horns look like big thick carrots with a gentle curve and not much space between the bases. Nannies horns look skinny and have a crook in them toward the tip, and a large spread between the bases.
Here is a 10" billy that scored just under 49"

lol,i don't think you want to shoot that one in the pic laying on the rock....it's laying in some guys house, lol. it's one of wild images sweet mounts
i was in the same boat as you a few years back.all the suggestions above are great.i googled mountain goats and went through just about every link, lol.look at lots of pics of both billies and nannies and pay attention to body structure, horns structure.another thing i found that worked, put up a pic of a billy and a nanny, side by side and look at the difference.
good luck on your hunt!!

hope i get that one lol
