The BCWF has adopted the National Archery in Schools Program and is sponsoring 10 schools around the Province with a complete package of bows, arrows, targets, netting etc for each school. In order to be selected the school must send a teacher willing to teach the program in PE classes for a minimum of two weeks per year for a minimum of five years. The teacher must attend a one day training course in Maple Ridge on Aug 24, 2009 (expenses for travel not covered by BCWF but the course is).

We also need at least one preferably two volunteers to attend a three day train the teachers course from Aug 22 - 24. The first day the trainers will take the same course that the teachers will get on the 24th, the second day they will be taught how to teach the course, and will teach assigned modules to the teachers on the 24th, with guidance and support from the National Trainers. Must be a BCWF member. (An individual membership, without the magazine, is only $27/year)

I know it is last minute, and yes many of us are heading off to set up camp etc for the archery opener but this is a fantastic opportunity. SO, if you are interested in participating call me for more details. If you are a teacher and interested or could help us identify schools on Vancouver Island call me!!

maybe bcwf should contact each school board district and ask for contact information on p.e. teachers then ask them directly.i'd personally love to see this in the schools.

What a coincident. Just today the president of the Nicola Valley Fish & Game Club phoned me up and asked if I would like to go to Maple Ridge in August 22-24 to take part in the course.

Since I have given several archery courses in the schools in our area the club thought that I would be the man to attend.

This afternoon I had a lengthy phone conversation with Marlene Kuyt at the BCWF, according to her it is not necessary to sign up a teacher to come along to Maple Ridge. She said that I could take the course alone and then pass it on to teachers afterward. I told her that on such short notice there is no way in hell that I could get any teachers on board. While I had her on the phone I let her know that a bit more time would have been appreciated since I am in the middle of organizing my seminar tour and hunting show appearances for this fall.

After juggling a few dates around I was able to squeeze the the course in and signed up. Last week I took part in the first "Angling Ambassador Program" and now this comes along. The things I do for the club and the BCWF. If that keeps up I need to get paid. :) So I guess I will see some of you in Maple Ridge on August 22. Strangely enough somehow I am looking forward to it.

Good for you! I wish I could attend too but family duties come first.

GREAT NEWS, finally someone's taking Mathews ball in the US and rolling it here in Canada!! As an NCCP archery coach, we need younger people to keep the sport going and growing!!! Now, if the BC Archery Association will help out with this!!!!

Heres a little info, the bc archery association tried to get this off the ground, as we were trying to set this up , the bcwf anounced it at the agm.
We volunteered our help but were basically left uninformed , even after some members were asked to be kept informed.
Last call, the bcwf had rescheduled the train the trainers course .They apparently do not want any experienced coaches or shooters to attend.

As I understand the BCWF has been approached by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) and said yes. Should they have consulted first with the BC Archery Association? I don't think so. Neither do I think that the BCWF would have objected to the BCAA if they would have asked to corporate in that program.

We volunteered our help but were basically left uninformed , even after some members were asked to be kept informed. It's not up to the BCWF to inform your organization or members. Unless a formal agreement between the two would have been established, which was not done. It's up to you to obtain the information if you're interested in working together with others.

Last call, the bcwf had rescheduled the train the trainers course. The first course had been canceled because the NASP instructor fell seriously ill. The course is rescheduled to November in Abbotsford.

They apparently do not want any experienced coaches or shooters to attend. That right there is a bunch of hogwash. What has that to do with "experienced coaches and shooters"? It's an archery program that is passed on to schools to teach children about the FUN of archery. It's not about raising a new crop of competitive archers. Do you honestly believe that only the BCAA has experienced coaches and shooters. The thought alone is laughable! Maybe that attitude is what stands in your way of taking part in that program.

I had my dealings with the BCAA in the past and I was not impressed with the snobbery prevalent in that organization. In fact it is the reason why I never got involved with it in the first place.

The NASP course was held last weekend in Abbotsford. Great program! Over 4.5 million kids involved in this program around the world. Roy Grimes, one of the founders of NASP, was our instructor trainer specialist.

We now have 9 certified instructor trainers in BC. The instructors are teachers in the school system and will be delivering the NASP program as part of the in school curriculum to students in grades 4 - 12 in the 10 pilot schools around the Province.

BCWF is the coordinating organization and has co-funded the pilot program, supplying the bows, arrows, targets, curtain, repair kits etc to the schools. I expect to be training the teachers in the Region 1 pilot school some time in January! My personal goal is to help get ten other schools in my region up and running the NASP program in the next twelve months.

Had a great time at the course and met some great folks there! In my books this is worth +100 points for the BCWF!!!
