Well I've decided to try my luck on doing my own skull mount with a deer I shot last year which was my first ever deer that I've taken as last year was my first year hunting. Any who here's my finished mount.

I made my own plaque, stained, & routered it. I also torched around the edges for an aged or added effect not sure if it's noticeable in the pics.

I also started my bear and coyote skulls which I just took out of the chemical bath. Pic attached as well

Yeppers that is a smaller bear skull in the tub it was the second bear I shot last year my first one was sent to the taxidermist for a full rug and they convinced me to do the skull so I let them do it. I am doing my second bear skull myself which is coming along nicely.

Thanks for the comments ya it takes a bit of time to do up a nice white clean skull. Then theres more like a plaque etc etc.. it's worth it in the end if you want a memories.

I use the same peroxide 33% which is very potent if you get it on your skin instantly it peels off the skin and burns badly I should know I've done it a couple of times.

Hey no limit, nice job!I did a couple last year and i love the look. For something different try adding a piece of wood on an angle off the front of the plaque.I had difficulty attaching the mounts to the plaque really securely, but i managed and it isn't a fast process is it.

Nope just straight 33% peroxide oh I think I added about a cup or two because it didn't fully cover the top of the dear skull but I wouldn't have added water if it covered it.

No it certainly isn't a fast process at all I have alot of work still to do on the bear and coyote skulls. The jaws need pining back together and then putting the teeth back in and gluing them in place and so forth. In the end it's worth it though. I didn't have much problem at all securing them to the plaque the only problem I had was thinking of a good plaque which I have 4 other looks to choose from. The templates took the longest to make and I used up alot of big sheets of paper to make them.

The mounts look great. Nice looking first buck, best way to preserve the memories is with that wicked looking mount job you did. Good on you for rolling up your sleeves and trying something out. Who knows what you are capable of until you try.

You have to buy it from a hydro-phonics store, they are actually making it so we can't buy it so strong because it's used in bombs and they want to get rid of how easy it is to get the chemical. At least that's what the store owner said to me.

Thanks for the compliments. For my first year hunting last year 2008 and then to be gifted enough to have this one step out in front of me for my first it was a really good first year it sealed the deal on my Passion for hunting.

I would for sure agree with you on the you dont know what your capable of until you try. Took some time and patience but it worked out well. Would recommend any one to try it out you'd be surprised what you can accomplish.
