270 short mag with 150 grain noslers. I found i couldn't get a tight grouping with the accubonds. Leavin in 24hrs. Can't wait to pack my overweight pack up some hills!

Got a big horn and my first stone with a .280 rem. tightly groups 150 gr. nosler p. Went out for moose with my .338 win mag in Oct. got a sheep tag just incase and ended up harvestig my second stoner with the port-a-cannon,the 230 gr nosler cleanly severed the spine behind the shoulders.

Last sheep hunt I went on I carried my custom 300WSM with 130gr TTSX bullets launched at 3500fps

I am pretty sure this load will kill a ram, as it has worked on deer and bear, but I haven't actually had the chance to try it out on a ram.

Normally, my go-to sheep rifle is a 6.5 Gibbs, 140gr Sierra GKs at 3150 fps.

If TB gets me hooked up in time, I think this year will be 338 RCM with 200gr SSTs (Hornady factory ammo)... there will be other stuff on the menu besides sheep.

I've shot all my goats and sheep (10 all told) with a custom Ruger in 270Win. Lightweight rifle, Douglas bbl (very accurate) and Brown Precision stock with a Leoplold Compact 6X scope.

I believe calibre ranks second in importance in a mountain rifle to the rifles other attributes like weight, resistence to moisture, durability, ability to retain zero under rough field conditions, etc.

My sheep hunting partner uses a 30-06 Gibbs similarilly equipped. If you have concerns about grizzly bears a lightweight magnum (under 8 pounds)would fill the bill, and if that brings rise to a concern about recoil a muzzle break could be a consideration.

Myself, 270 win,150gr nosler partitions. 2"high @100yds..does the job without heavy recoil...
(I did kill my stone sheep with a 338win mag,200gr hornady bullet.)

Howdy, 300 wm, 220 gr. silvertip in first and then 2-180 Federal grain on top. Sheep are also in Grizzly country so I like to be prepared when sneaking up some brush filled draw ( you never know-it has happened before ) even though the 270 would still do the job on a sheep very easily. Later

300 wsm for me, 165 interbond, or 168 tsx. Sheep are not that hard to kill, but safety in grizzly country is the reason i carry the 300wsm. It weighs 6 3/4 all up,

on another note, you guys are leaving in 24 and 48 hours, getting an early jump on it are we?

Plan on using a plainjane 30.06 and 150 grain TTSX at 2950 fps. That and a 200 grain Swift A frame once there's fresh meat around..:)

Appears as though the concensus is a 140gr - 150 gr bullet in a "lighter" caliber, although there is quite a mixed bag out there which ultimatly means shoot what you feel comfortable with.

I appreciate the added protection of a 300 but is it neccessary? depends on the hunter... I like it for the extra 'kick' and long range ability in a stout wind.
