I have waited forever for this to begin - saturday morning 5 am on the road to Canim lake - we are heading with Breanne, Braydon and OMG Lucas (Breanne's new beau) he better be made out of outdoor stalk then on the following Friday Azshia is joining us (very strange that she isnt driving with us - ohh kids should never grow up) she is bringing her livin love Joshua (hehehehehee hope he can handle what he is in store for up there)

10 days in the cariboo wilderness, fishing, relaxing, scouting out new areas in region 5, Peter is going to try a few new lakes and even a few old lakes fly fishing - I finally get to try out my birthday present (.22/.410 over under combination) haven't had the chance to give it a shot but look out targets here I come

going to gently introduce Joshua to rifles but Lucas is a farmboy and has handles firearms before

Look for pictures galore on my return - hehehehe will have some beautiful scenery shots I am certain and we now have a really nice new camera (Nikkon D50 died) now have a D80 :)

as you can imagine we had a very eventful 10 days at the cabin - starting with a wonderful day travelling with lots of great tunes coming from 3 different ipods and the cd player lol - teens have strange music but some is rather pleasant when you hear it coming from their headphones at all different decibals

we arrived at the cabin early saturday afternoon, july 25 and the weather was amazingly warm, the lake was like glass and we were the only ones there on the property

opening the back of the truck the 2 dogs were so excited to see the lake - Hunter of course ran right in where she stayed until dark each day or she swam herself into exhaustion - sissy on the other hand showed us her age this trip and we have to come to terms that she isnt a youngin anynore and needs more pampering

as everything gets unloaded and packed away, exploration begins as to what sort of changes have come to the property and we discoer the barn has been collapsed by the harsh winter it endured and the old cattle barn is no longer standing for the sweet pics we used to take there but as things disappear new things come up - we discovered we have a resident moose living there or lets say he likes to bed down there and poop all over marking it as his place

each day we sat enjoying the scenery or motoring slowly on the lake, swimming, or just plain old doing absolutely nothing brought a peace amongst us - having a vacation with your kids when they are so self sufficient is lonely yet invigorating at the same time

Breanne came with her Boyfriend (not a real outdoors guy, so we found out but he did okay) they had a great time trying to fish (no luck but lots of lost gear) Peter had to rescue Lucas once when he flooded the motor and forgot to put oars in the boat - they went quading together and had some great times exploring until Lucas got a flat tire on the dirt bike and they had to double back on the quad with the bike tied onto the quad (broke the spark plug in the process) Poor Peter spent more time repairing that dang dirt bike with 3 flat tires (had to drive in to 100 mile to get a new tube and patch kit) then he ahd to try and fix the spark plug (thank goodness he is handy) oh and lets just say Breanne does better driving a car than the quad as she hit the gas and almost ran her dad over when they went for a little jaunt together - she ran into the back of the dirtbike causing a few new dents and broken tail light but all in all those two had a blast when we could pry their lips apart

Braydon is my great outdoors boy - that kid can have you in stitches from laughter to amazement in his accomplishments - he conquered his fear of deep water, went out on the boat alone and tried his hand at fishing, went on a few in depth hikes with his dad fishing some lakes he hasnt been to since he was a little gaffer - he also seems to have the same hankering for fishing and beer his dad has and then the stogies come out (cough cough) I was told it is male bonding father and son style - he was lucky that a buddy of his was vacationing at their cabin across the lake and they found us and took Braydon to their place for an overnighter where he went tubing, wake boarding and okay partied a little too much but again he had a great time

Azshia and he boyfriend came up a week later for the long weekend and we got to see Josh show his outdoor stuff (much more than Lucas was) but Josh better be more wilderness savvy considering he is living with a huntress and fisherette if he knows what's good for him lol. Azshia took Josh on some great excursion to show him some of our hunting areas and he thought it was awesome - they did a lot of boating and just exploring together (was like seeing Peter and I when we started dating)

We spent out 24th wedding anniversary (Aug 3) together as a family and it was really special - the kids made th day special and even though Peter and I went on an evening fish (no fish) it was still a great time to be on the boat - we also discovered where the sunken island is on canim lake - very cool to get out of your boat in the middle of lake and walk on land 2 feet below the water (be careful though not good if your prop hits it)

All in all the 10 days were hot, fishing was not great as the water temp was 80 - 84 degrees and the fish were not biting - we did see lots of young trout at the river schooling about but very few were being caught on the lake - during the cooler moments of the day were saw a few nice bucks and does (mmmmmmmm hunting season soon) and on our travels around found some really good new slashes and game trails

we saw many helicopters flying with fire prevention buckets and of course there was a fire ban so we brought our propane fire pit with us (co's came for a visit and approved it so we were good) - thank goodness cause we needed to be able to make "smores"

It is nice to always get away and as much as coming home is great - I feel more at home up there than here but hey have to come back to reality once in a while

oh did I mention just as we were heading out of the gate we discovered the truck had a flat tire (wasnt our luck with tires this trip) hehehehehe

pics coming

Welcome home Ali, Happy to hear it was a relaxing family vacation. Recharge the batteries! Sounds like your children are becoming more like friends and less like dependants! Talk to you soon. The Moosins
