do they charge per person?or for plane hire by the hour?if you were a solo hunter would they let you share the flight with other passenger/s kind of a shuttle service, I was wondering return cost from atlin area to dease lake?

Usually flights are based on X amount/per mile with a minimum 1/2 hour flight. Dont know the current rates. rates are also based on what type of plane too.

If you are going with a bunch of guys in a larger plane or are expecting to bring out a moose or something you will need a larger plane. if going solo after just a sheep you can get by with a smaller plane if they have one. The smaller the plane the cheaper it is to fly.

GoatGuy will probably pipe up and he probably knows the going rates and who flys up north.

I think it is $500 round trip from Nimpo lake to Itcha lake you are paying for the flight and if you don't fill the plane with your group/gear they will most certainly make use of the space.. We pay to have a ton of alfalfa pellets flown in every fall and most if not all comes in on flights containing hunters going it on foot.

Make sure you are aware of weight limits on the trip home, hauling a full load in could make for an expensive second flight to haul your meat out.

Did you know you can drive to either Atlin or to Dease Lake?

If its the Atlin area you want to fly into ...... it may be cheaper to drive to Atlin and fly out of there, rather than Dease Lake.

Both places have float planes for charter. They charge per / mile or a set rate for the lake you're choosing to fly into. The price they give you typically is not a round trip. If Bruce says it will cost 1200 to go to X lake .... it will be another 1200 for pick up for 2400 total.

i beleive a beaver is worth about 17.50 per mile. if you phone a float plane company they would be happy to tell ya i'm sure.

I can quote you exact if you let me know where you want to go. We sometimes do split charters and you sometimes can double up with other groups but that planning can be tough. PM me if you like.

Beavers are around $8/mile, you pay both ways. Not much for sked runs in the atlin/dease/watson country anymore.

Howdy, I don't know if there are any in that region anymore but when there was just a couple of us we would use a 185 to go in and hopefully have a beaver pick us up with the bigger load.
Quite a bit cheaper on the total flying bill. Later

1400.00 for 40 miles in/out is right on the money as all air carriers that I know have a minimum price per flight. Usually that is very close to 350.00 per leg. You need 4 minimum flights to go in and out. Sometimes carriers with only a beaver will offer a 185 rate for the trip in if you are light enough. Each operator will have thier own deals and minimums but we are all very close in price.

sounds cheap.
200 km (100 each way) = 124m @ $8/m = $992 or $248/g (4 guys)

What is the weight capacity of a beaver GG?

That sounds cheap because it is cheap. If it's 100km to the lake, you need to mulitply that by 4(distance travelled by the plane)..... Two trips in and two trips out.
Unless you wanted to hike out:).

A beaver is not going to get 4 guys in one flight. 4 guys sure, 4 guys and 2 guys' gear, maybe, 4 guys and 4 guys' gear, no way, 4 guys and 4 guys' gear and dead animals....$$$$$$$$.

1200 lbs in a beaver. Bruce could haul more and get a couple extra knots out of that thing with new paint.

There are also minimum distances. Keep this in mind. I think the cheapest (hunt total cost) in and out is around $1500. Not in a beaver.

If they are just 4 sheep you could probably get away with just one flight out...unless the hunters are tubbos.

On a trip I had years ago, there was 3 of us,1 immy moose(quartered),1 caribou (quartered), our gear for 10 days and the pilot who probably weighed around 260lbs. The return trip was from Mesantan Lake to Tatogga Lake thou i'm not sure of the exact distance. Figuring out the fuel consumption no doubt played a big part of the max payload. I do remember we were very low on fuel when we arrived at Tatogga Lake.

Throw a couple thousand feet ASL and floats and you've got a game changer.

Cost us $2 grand with Bruce this year but we went pretty deap into the mountains you could do a close lake out of Dease for around $1000 to $1200. Alpine air out of Smithers has a Wilga thats $4 a mile. The guy out of Burns Lake has a Cesna at $5 per mile. That cuts cost down if you can go in light. We did a trip a few years ago for $900 flying with an Outfitter. There is deals to be had you just have to look in odd places.
Oh we had two people two dogs all our gear a moose and a caribou this year with room to spare could have brought out another Bou.

Fondly remember the old days..3 of us chartered a Beaver out of Dease and flew in 60 miles and got picked up 2 weeks later. Total cost was $287.50. Still got the rec'pt somewhere.

oh yes the good ol days- when $287 got u something...
id think average flights cost anywhere from $600-$1200 each way..
