View Full Version : Some Canal fishing

Went out last Saturday for some sockeye on the Alberni Canal. Made it out half decently early this time. We ran the double stacked lines and finally figured out our ideal leader length. We were using the coho special flashers and red hot spot flashers with MP16 hoochies with black hooks. We tried one those sparkly trucks some guys are talking about with two hits on it so it works.

After fishing we were cleaning the fish and some eagles came over to check out the action. We had some bait left over so we threw it out to them.

what you want for sockeye, is a real short leader max 18 inches, a red flasher, and a red hootchie with just a few pieces of those thingies that dangle down. and you're set!

That's me in the background."Early riser" crew.Camped at Mactush.Lots of fish.Filleted em all monday night,fresh salmon on the grill for dinner,smoker will be getting a workout this weekend.Finally traded in my work tools for a fishing rod!!
