New to the hunting bear thing and I saw this one yesterday and was wondering if it was big enough to rough score and what the score would be?

I thought that people say when the ears and nose make a perfect triangle to pull the trigger?

Hey Moosin, I was setting up my elk trailcam when I came across this bear. Just wondering if it was big enough to go after August 15.

Big ears, small body, he is no shooter...

She's 8 1/2 years old, has a torn right ear from fighting, weighs 322 lbs. She was just bred this spring as she chased her 2 year old cub out of the home before it was killed by a boar. It came out of it's den late and is still very skinny which makes it's head look larger than it really is. The ears are not long and pointy like on a small bear but are wide and flat. Because it is standing up and cocking it's ears they look larger than they would look if they were in the normal position while it was walking. It's a decent bear and would be a bear to be proud of by most hunters but it would not make the trophy book.

I like bears that look like VW bugs, that bear is more of an everywhere everyday bear.

I don't see how you guys are assming this is a sow. Big Snout, good size head. Ears look a bit big but I'd sayit is a boar. he's deffinatly a shooter if your looking for an average bear in my opinion. But give him a couple years and he'll be a good one.

Not a shooter........ Got to look for a bear with ears that look like 2 oreo cookies bit in half stuck to the side of its head, not tall german shepard ears on the top. Probably about a 5 1\2 foot bear is my guess?

Wow dino that looks like a nice bear, belly hanging down but the ears still look like my bear.

I also want to thank everybody for their input on this thread, it has been quite helpful. I think what I'm going to do is try to get another picture of this bear. The picture I have now isn't that good as half of the body is covered by bush and the bear was 130 yards away.
Thanks again everybody!

Oh ya , I don't think it is all about the ears. Compare couple those big bears here and you will see. Even Jim Shockey said he is sure he has big bear when he grabs its balls :))

A little trick to judging bears, if the bear stands up on it's hindlegs, very very rarely will that bear be a Shooter. That is a sign of a young bear. A standing bear always seems to look big. When they spin around and drop to all 4's, you get a totally different perspective. IMO, that bear looks to be in the Squeeker 5 range, meaning, it might make 5 foot, but barely. I too agree that it looks like a sow.
