Nice looking batch of pups, has the possibilitys to be a good combination.
Curious as to what the ages are on the parents and if the male was used at all this past winter.

Do you think they could tree lions and bears, and retrieve grouse and ducks? If they can, I'll take 3.

The male isn't quite a year and a half old. Being last winter was his first season, I didn't turn him loose. I spent a lot of time training him and walking him on lead looking for tracks. By the end of the season, he was turned on and air scenting. If the snow conditions weren't absolute $hit, I'm sure he'd of had his first tree as we were right on top of a lion. Both he and I were swimming is waist deep slush and I knew that lion would have the advantage so I kept him on lead. Wasn't about to let him get killed.

The female is 2 1/2 and is very keen to retrieve grouse and is an excellent shedhunting dog. Since I ain't a duck hunter, I haven't trained her to retrieve ducks.

I've had both dogs in the highcountry backpacking and plan on getting them both outfitted with dog packs. My brother has used his dogs to pack out game and I am quite certain both my dogs will pack as well.

Bayou,
I haven't done a hell of a lot of research yet on dogpacks. I know my bro got his from the folks that make the Wilderness Wanderer in the Loops. Seems like a pretty good setup. I'm hoping to get some time here within the next month and research out a few more options before hunting season is upon me. There is a guy here in Clearwater that builds horse packs, cruiser's vests ect. and I might see what he can build me. He goes by the name of Chasing Summer Outfitters. I've got one of his cruiser's vests. I've been using it for 10 years now. It held up good for a long time. Need a new one now, but the Dana's are notorious for being hard on equipment. If it last me 10 years, it would last most others 20. ;)

Dana, looks like you got a good head start on a "puppy mill"

Seriously though, nice looking parents, be interesting to see how the pups will turn out.

Dana have you ever tried the father on bears?

dana

I've been busy all spring with our house renos, so no, I haven't tried him on bears yet. 2 times last summer, while backpackin the highcountry, we encountered grizz tracks. Both times he was fired up and ready to go. :lol:In the fall, we saw a few black bears while road hunting, and he was really fired up over them. So I have no doubt he'd work out as a bear hound.
