Fished Tyee for Kokanees lots of times. Level wind reel with lead core line and about 50' of 12-15# mono trailing. Then a chrome or nickel #5 FST or ruby eye followed by 16" of leader with something red trailing. Morning, 3 colors out, midday on, 5 or 7 colors out. Reel like hell when you get a strike. Troll speed about 2 to 3.5 kph. An 8' rod with a soft or medium action.
If you're at the forestry campsite, fish in a north south line about halfway out from the north shore and start about 300 meters south of that point.

I camped at Howes lake once and caught one fish. Its really shallow with one deep spot in it where I caught my fish. I think you'd be better off fishing tyee lake. It didnt seem to me like the fishing at Howes was all that good.

hmmmm LOTS of much better lakes so close by..Jacksons Hole..ELK lake..Forest Lake etc etc etc..Tyee is "decent " for Kokanee but Howes Lake is not worth any effort at all..
