Left last Wednesday afternoon. Saw nothing until just inside Westgate of Manning Park and saw a Mulie buck in velvet. Then literally a few feet inside Eastgate saw a group of 3 bucks in velvet right beside the highway.
Spent 4 days in the Coalmont area and did lots of quadding. There was a bear in the campsite on Monday and Tuesday night but it was a no show when we where there.
Didn't see or hear any grouse but a local said they were setting and busy with chicks so weren't moving around much.
Some some bear crap but not a lot.
People camping next to us saw a little brown bear on one of their rides.
Saw a couple of does across the river, but no fawns with them.
Weird weather! sunny and warm in the morning and then around 2 o'clock everyday the thunder and lightening and rain would show up for a couple of hours and then the sun would come back for the rest of the day. Hopefully the rain doesn't take the grouse chicks if they're hatched already.
Unfortunately on the trip home saw a dead buck in velvet beside the highway at Eastgate in the same area we saw the 3 on the trip up.
We weren't hunting on this trip, thougth about getting a bear tag before we left but changed or minds and opted for some R&R instead.
