The best you can afford.
Cheaper cost but plenty good enough is the Viper rattler.

I'd recommend a "Package" deal for you. Something like the one described below.

Of course, this is also an excellent option....

I would recommend Excaliber crossbows. IMHO I think they are probably one of the best crossbows out there. If price is a concern then have a look at PSE Viper Rattler nice little crossbow for the price.

Each crossbow comes with a scope, 4 bolts and free shipping in Canada. I bought one and got a deer with it that's in my avatar. They range from $229.00 to $488.00 for the compound one. They are all camo except for one of the bows. I'm not a serious bow hunter as i only use it for the early and late seasons and that's why i didn't go all out money wise. The Jaguar one i bought comes with a shoulder strap, 4 bolts, detachable quiver and a red dot scope. It's 175Ib and 310fps. I usually pm the info so i don't get jumped on lol as these aren't top of the line products but they are great as far as i'm concerned but i figured i'd put it out there any way in case others are looking for a starter crossbow package. This is the second bow i've bought from them. I bought the Jaguar because it had a detachable quiver. Plus the other bows use 22 scopes and it made it harder to see through as it got darker..
Check out Dels in Vernon..........he has a good selection. I bought my 10 point from him.

I can't believe how inexpensive they are.
How does the quality compare to Excalibur ?
I know you get what you pay for but I only want to use it for after hunting season when I can hunt the orchards.

I don't think anything compares to the quality of an Excalibur but i never had any problems whatsoever with these bows. I'm not an agent or representative for these bows as i stumbled upon the site while shopping for a new crossbow. If i was a serious bow hunter then i would of stepped it up a notch towards Excalibur but i just like to take advantage of all hunting season whether its a buck from Sept 1st to the 9th or a whitetail doe for the late bow season after gun season. They are great for the beginner or getting your kids started. Here's a larger pic of the deer in my avatar that i got with the bow on the last day of early bow season before guns kicked in. They put the same pic in their gallery on the site. It will be perfect for you if you just want to use it for orchards. Also you can order 10 aluminum bolts from them for $39.00. Where can you buy 10 aluminum bolts for that price? That's $3.90 each. The price of the bows also included tax as well as free shipping but when i ordered my Jaguar a couple of months ago he was in the process of getting a gst number but still a helluva deal for what you and i need it for.

If you get to Surplus Herbys, http://www.surplusherbys.com/, not on their web pages but they do carry cheap crossbows similar or the same as the mentioned Jaguar crossbow at less money then the Canadacrossbow web site. I've never tried a quality bow but the Jaguar does hit it's mark from the 25 - 30 yard distance. Myself I would check out the Excalibur line up, http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/, if you plan on continued use year after year. Good luck

Hey guys ive been wondering what i should get to hunt with. Ive been using a compound for a year and had some good hunts with it. BUT ive herd alot of very good things about crossbows. I may go get a Xbow tomarrow. What do you guys/gals think? Crossbow or Compound. Also leave reasons why u think it. Thanks"I rather die on my feet, then live on my knees"

I think its a matter of preference as to what you want. You may try the crossbow and love it or you may hate it and stick with your compound. I tried compound but prefered a crossbow instead but thats me. A compound has more range than a crossbow but nowadays the crossbows that are coming out are increasing in the range department too.
