Well after a day flogging the roads in 8-05 and just about at our wits end, we spotted a few deer, that gave us hope that all the critters would start to move around. Sure enough we spot this guy on a spur road. Ian makes a good shot and hits him hard. The lungs were gone and the bullet exited the far side. Once again his new to him 7mag drops a bear.

The problem is, the bear didn't know he was dead. He scaled a hill that took me 10 min to climb and another 20 or so to find him. We were quite frustrated not being able to find him, till I climbed even higher. Then I found him. Thankfully he went up hill!! This pig was heavy, at 6' he was among the heaviest I've had to move. Nice grape on him too!!

Now he's done, maybe he'll let me shoot a good bear

Are you kidding. They were at the bottom of the 100' hill waiting to stop him:eek::eek:

Nope just one!! Then he played Houdini for 1/2 hour. He was resting peacefully when I found him.

Damn those mosquito's were nasty, I look like I've got a bad case of mumps or something.

Then now this morning I wake up to a broke cooler :-x We may actually need a butcher:x

nice bear!

what bullet?

A store bought 175grn Federal PP I believe  It killed the bear sure, BUT today in getting the meat cleaned up, I discovered the base of the bullet inside the right side shoulder (off side) yet there was a significant hole in front of the back leg. The recovered chunk tipped the scale at 115 grn so the missing piece of 60 grn was the one that tore the hole in the guts.

Dead yes, but messy for sure. The shot was under 100yds up a fairly steep hill.

I was almost embarrassed to find out a harsh reloader that he is, used one of them store made pills :wink:

But the meat and bones at the cutter tipped the scale at 186lbs. So I can't bitch that much can I??

Congrats to Ian - again! That is a nice size bear for sure.

Now, what's Ian going to do in the Fall - he's tagged out on yogies? Shoot a couple of deer? David, it's time to let Ian drive and you do some shooting!:biggrin:

Congrats again!

maybe if david quite using that boring 30 06 a bear would want him to shoot it. i was using 175 power points. i bought it at wally mart cause it was cheap and i wanted the brass. only thing is it was shooting 3/4 inch triangles out of my t3 so i had to try it. three bullets recovered from two bear all within a couple of grains around 115 recovered weight. i wouldn't want to be using 140 grn power points there would be nothing left..
