How do you think a lab would be for trailing a blood trail, of a wounded animal.

If someone can train them to sniff out bed bugs, cancer, drugs, black mold, etc, etc....I'd bet it wouldn't be too hard to get them on to blood trails.

They could probably track the animal without the blood

What do you think would be the best to train then for something like that.

"Tracking Dogs For Finding Wounded Deer" by John Jeanneney......good book on the "how to".
Your Lab should work fine if you train em up for it.

Yes labs do. My dog's tracked quite a few shot and some wounded critters.

Started her out young. Shot a couple of bears and let her track them. When it's fresh like that they pick up the scent really well. Lots of praise when she found them.

Then started here on treeing bears. Could have trained her a bit better to stick with the tree - in her mind the job's done once the bear squirts up the tree.

Tracked plenty of other critters too. Seemed to pick it up real quickly. She gets real 'birdy' whenever there's critters nearby - often she picks things up first, tail starts wagging and she gets excited. Lets the rest of us now when to slow right down and pay attention.

Works good.
