Does that model show geographic contours?

Nope!! If you got yourself a 60Csx you would be a pro in no time, they are that easy to use.

That's not an entry level feature... that's an advanced level feature.

You want either the Garmin GPS Map 60CSX or 76CSX.

Spend a little more now, save a lot later on.

Who makes the 60CSX? Garmin?

Thanks for the info.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I came across a great tree stand location when out hiking in the summer only to forget exactly where it was!! I just want something that i can mark some of this stuff down, I don't care if it's B&W but i want contours.

I just got a Lowrance SOG for the boat and in the truck, has abillity to d/l salt water fish maps, etc. But not great as a hand held - battery has 3 hour time limit or so, Garmin for handhelds is the way i would go.

I have a Magellan and I vote for Garmin anything, I'll never buy a Magellan product again.

I've handled a few and decided on 60CSx it's pretty rugged and has all the features to get you there and back and a little bit more. Just make sure it's calibrated.

I have a Garmin etrex for sell, basically new(non mapping but simple to use).

Anyone used the Garmin - Oregon for hunting? How does it compare to the 60cx?

I picked up a etrex legend hcx off craigs list for $180 and am pretty happy with it. Just remember the x in the different model names means it will come with a memory card and the higher power antena, both a must in my opinion.

To get your feet wet you can pick up the basic e trexs for around $80 or cheaper used.

I have an older Garmin GPS12. It has pretty basic functions, but I've uded it for a number of years and never had an issue. If/when it come time to buy a new one, I'll be going for the basic Etrex. I have no need for anything more than finding my location.

As many have already said here, go with the Garmin 60 CSX. I use the model for both work and play and find it really easy to use. Buttons are user friendly, screen/controls are intuitive and Garmin TopoCanada has really great Topo maps.

I've also used the Garmin 76 C and didn't find it as good - the buttons are a little less easy to use, the unit itself is bigger and clumsier, etc. Still a good GPS but the 60CsX is better.

Good luck!

GPS Central in Calgary is likely the best deal on these. Also they'll give you a deal on the maps if bought at the same time.
