Seems the kid is on a roll and can't be stopped. Here's some pics of Cody's monster 7 footer that he hammered this morning. This is his 3rd bear in 3 years and all have been 6 foot plus bears. The skull is well over 19 inches green. We'll see if it'll make BC Book once it dries.

A boy to be proud of Dana...well done on getting him started so early. That bear looks big enough to be mistaken for a grizzly.

Great bruin. We've seen some nice ones all week and a couple today including one that walked right through my shop area this AM around 6:30. I don't hunt the animals myself, but I gave a coworker in Kamloops some solid info about a beauty but he wasn't interested. They're out there in force right now for sure.

Sorry, it's actually 6 foot 11 6/8's inches nose to tail hide off, head in, with no stretching. Close enough to 7 foot to me.

Thanks for putting up the photos.

Please pass along congratulations to the young man on that fine bear. I like his rifle choice as well, it shows character! ;)

I'd like to send a tip of the hat your way for taking the time to take your son out doing what we love. I believe we'd have a better world if more parents took their kids out with them, so well done sir.

Thanks again,
Dwayne

That ol' 99 has a lot of history. The amount of critters that have fallen by her in the hands of 4 generations of our family is simply amazing. If she could talk just think of the stories she would tell.

Yup, I believe it, just like my old 250/3000 M99, four generations now and still goin' strong. My dad said he survivied the great depression (1929) shooting coyotes for bounty and white tails for the table with it (might come to that again in 2009).

The 99 is a 300.

We haven't had much time for bear hunting this spring. The spring was very late getting here with snow hampering any ideas of early bear hunting. With some major house renos on the honeydo list, both shed hunting and bear hunting have taken the back seat. We got out a couple weekends ago for the first time and I got Cody on 2 seperate bears but both were misses. The one was pretty justified as we stalked it in the timber and it made us and bailed. I decided to squeal a spur of the moment 'wounded rabbit' call and turned that bear right around and he came charging back towards us. Freehand shooting, charging bear and tight shooting lanes means I wasn't surprised by the miss. Nothing like the ol' man making things a little exciting for the kid eh? All I can say is I'm glad he missed, cause the bear he took yesterday is nothing short of a Monster. I have only killed one 7 foot+ bear in my lifetime and that was only a couple years ago. While it took me 24 years of bear hunting to acheive that, it only took Cody 3 years. Somehow I doubt it'll be his last either. I know I'll have my work cut out for me as Bear Guide Dad. When we got home my daughter said to me that she wants a bigger one next year when she starts bear hunting. 8-)

Mark,
No shed thread from me. Barely got out this year. When I had the time there was way too much snow. Then when the snow finally melted, the house renos were on the go. So you did indeed kick my ass this year. My shed pile needs to be trimmed down anyways. It was kinda taking over the house.

Told him we'll start putting him in for grizz as soon as he can shoot his ol' man's 300 Win. With how fast he's growing, I'd say it might just be next year's draw.

Bump for IronHead. Dude, when you post up a monster, post up some decent pics with a positive attude and look at how nice the thread goes. Even at that, one guy did question the size. WTF cares? Everyone else liked it. Can't please everyone right? ;)

BTW,
My good camera was broken at the time so I was using a real cheap digital for these pics. Wish I had of had my new camera then, so I could have had way better pics, but oh well, the little camera did a decent job.

great bear cody, my son just passed up his first bear just this morning, would have been his first big game animal, he was about a 51/2 footer, crazy though he shoots the same 300 savage that your son has, was my first gun given to me by my grandfather when i was 9. I am heading to nakusp next weekend to start looking for my LEH grizz. good on ya young fella.

Sorry Dana, I got alot of respect for you as a hunter but taking a shot at Ironhead like this is pretty low.

There is no comparison of your photo's to his but he did say it was from a cell phone.

I do not know Ironhead, just like I do not know you... But Congrats to Both Ironhead and your son for Shootin' really nice bears!
