Well just got back from an amazing trip to the eat side of arrow lake. Myself and three other bear hunting enthusist, headed out last friday morning to go on our first grizz trip. We all couldn't sleep for two days prior, just so excited to get out there!! Took the lower ferry into nakusp, i think it was the needles, faquier ferry, and got to our location about 3pm that day. We were planing to hunt up the halfway river, halfway between nakusp and galena bay. Drove up the road about 4km and the first cut block what do we see, and hude silver tipped grizz half way up. Holy shiT!!!! Not even set up camp and we are seeing grizz, just an awesome boost for all of us.
Well to make a very long exciting story short, we ended up with four black bears, 2 over six feet, and two over five. One Nice chocolate bear, and no grizzly. Saw 3 grizzly bears total, 2 of them were a minute from camp in the middle of the road. Just left camp and same em. They just bolted dwon the road full speed. Put up dust like a loggin truck.. Just massive animals, beautiful too. Figured it was a male and female, the smaller bear was way to big to be a cub. And the big male, double the size of the female.
We had no problems going up or coming back. The trip was a total success. HAd a new hunting woundy come with us, and he got his first bear. He was super happy. And another buddy dennis, i guided him (lol) into a massive boar on our last morning hunt. About 9am in the middle of the road. Stalked him for about 350+ yards, and he hammered him with one shot from a 7mm at about 120yards. JUST AN AWESOME SHOT. Good on ya, threw out my back though, trying to pack him out. Couldnt even move him, it was all up hill. HAd to use the ol yota to pull him out. Just a super bear, nice coat on him too.
We brought the video camera with us and got 4 or 5 stalks on some nices bears. Got within 20 yards of most of them. Bear hunting sure and an adrenaline rush, even when you dont pull the trigger. If they cant smell ya you not there HA HA!
Well if there is one thing i learned this trip, its the black bears are sure hard to judge. You think there huge, and there small, you think there small and there huge. Definalty got some practice this trip though.
Oh yeah enjoy the pics, and the weather was amazing!!! Its shitty to be back, wish i was still out there.
