Hello everyone I am curious as to how fast antlers grow.I just got in from watching two bucks they were already developing a noticeable split on both sides.Just wondering if they grow at a predictable rate.:?:

about 0.13 inch a day from April 1 to august 20th so approx 140 days, times .13 would be 18.20 inches
one day - 0.13
ten days= 1.30
thirty days= 3.90
ninety days= 11.70
hundred= 13.0
one hundred forty days= 18.20 inches approx
depends on age of buck cuz younger buck the growth is in bone skeleton re. skull and bones, vertabrae, ribs, legs until four and a half years old then at five the bone structure is done so more calcium and minerals etc into antler growth therefore bigger thicker wider higher antlers at five and a half trophy size if genetics and feed nutrition are condusive to a bigger healthier animal with a large set of antlers.
Jel -- age, nutritional value and genetics determine antler mass.

Thanks for the info. for a deer to develope a non typical antler does it have to be over 4 or 5 years of age or is it a genetic trait some deer have and others dont

The nontypical is genetics and some are deformaties but mostly a genetic strain found in an area where the bucks live from dad buck to son and so on.
A yearling buck will have a set from a single spike on each side to up to a very small thin four. If it's a strain of non-typical it could show a hint or two when very young re drop tines etc. Trophy class bucks ( book bucks) are five years old and up but a younger buck a three and four year old can still have a nice large wall hanger hat rack. Genetics, high valued nutrional food, mineral water, lime stone and age all play a big part.
Non-typs are genetic freaks but man they are impressive.
Jel -- good luck nailing a big gun --
