Skyline, Starbuck and I headed out to Terrace a couple weeks ago for the 3-D archery shoot.
Good times had by all.

While we were there we decided to look for some blackies......and saw this guy!!

One of the most beautiful bears I've ever seen... and huge too!

I got off a few "shots" before he slowly fed away:-)

Enjoy!

wow great pics. funny story.... i was fishing with a buddy east of terrace one year and my buddy says excitedly "I think i just saw a kermode." I say "thanks for telling me, after it ran in the bushes!" He responds with....

"well I thought it was just a big dog." now the point here is we were in the middle of NOWHERE, and there was just a big white dog running around?

crazy guy.

thanks for the pics.

ThinAir;
Thank you for posting the fine photos.

I can't recall seeing better ones of a Kermode bear, they are truly outstanding.

Thanks again,
Dwayne

I was wondering the same thing. What exactly is a true Kermode? Great looking bear and great photos. I wonder how many of them are on folks walls (ie before it became "socially" correct not to shoot them)?

Great pics ThinAir. I'm glad Skyline finally got to see a Kermode since he was right by one last year and missed out!! That's ok, this one was definitely closer!!!

That bear is becoming a celebrity just like our "gimpy" at the airport. Hopefully this one won't be mistaken for a grizz! I know someone else on this site who has some great photos of another kermode taken by film last year. ;-)

What none of you boys had a polar bear tag? I hear old gimpy is getting lonely up at the airport. You could have sent him a playmate.
You know I lived here for more than 3/4 of my life and I have yet to lay my eyes on one of those. How do you guys get the entire horse up there?
Seriously, nice pics.

There is nothing "Social" about it! It is against the law!! Period! Protected! They are a mystical critter, and I am as far away from a environmentalist as there is and I wouldn't shoot a Kermode. That would be just bad Karma for sure!! Now to get a fine photo trophy as these photos is absolutely wonderful! Thanks for sharing! Moosin

Awesome pics Thinair, its rare to see them let alone get a great photo of them. When I guided up in Whale Channel I had the oppurtunity to see three different Kermode bears. 1 boar and a sow and cub. The cub was a cutie. Got some pics but they didn't turn out as good as yours did:icon_frow

great pictures. A friend of mine shot a Bear in AB that was the same color phase. Where he hunts they rutinley see 4-5 bears a year that light. I wounder if they have the same recesive gene?

I probably should have used a different word there to describe it. I know it is against the law. I just meant before 1900 when they named it the Kermode etc.etc. and got it's recognition with folks outside of the First Nations. I wonder if any were shot by settlers, explorers, etc..

How does one distinguish a blonde bear from a Kermode, other than geography?

Other Kermode's I've seen tend to be pretty white, this one looks more blonde...but I guess it could be dirt.

looks orange to me , not a white bear at all { though it is a great looking bear and a nice photo of it to be sure} i wonder where the line gets drawn in a case such as this. and " mythical creature " please , it has a different gene you know like red heads and bald people .
