just when i thought all hope was lost at having a chance to catch sockeye again.

Sockeye: The daily limit for Sockeye Salmon in Area 23, Barkley Sound and Alberni Inlet will be two (2) effective June 15, 2009 until further notice.

who plans to go this year? i believe our fathers day weekend trip will be going there.

Nope, no talk yet of NOT having an opening, All pre season forcasts are calling for an area 29FRNT opening this year! I cant wait........shoulder to shoulder combat fishing at its worst!! :(

thats what is awesome about port alberni, you are 5min away from the fishing grounds for sockeye. you and another 5000 boats.

No crowd, anchor mid river and have tons of room. Get to laugh at all the crazy people on shore doing their weird things.
Sockeye season definately brings out the worst in people.

i'll be keeping a close eye on the sockeye opening for the Fraser. i'll be sure to stay home or go fish for trout in the interior when it opens. i fail to see the reason people must stand shoulder to shoulder, argue, bitch, moan and literally fight over fish that max out around 10 pounds. stupid sockeye. i'll be chasing pinks with a 5 weight and the springs, coho and chum in the vedder, also on the fly. no snagging for me! :D
