Hey there, I bought a used ARC 1500. I am trying to get my bullet flight programed in, however I dont have a manual for it. What I need to know is how to change it for a 400 grain bullet flying out of a 416 rem mag. Anyone who has done it, please let me know. Leaving tomorow, going after a monster grizzly, probably wont shoot over 100 yards, at which the bullet is 1.5 inches high. I have also tested it for 200 yards at which it seems 11 inches low. But would like to know the inbetween stuff. Maybe there is another way to figure out its drop. Cheers, Dave

How do you like the range finder. I will be buying one need to know how far you can range with it cosistenly

Actually havnt ranged too much with it, however up to 800 yards it has been flawless, the few times I have had it out. It is a tad bit bigger than some, however the price was right. What I really like is that it figures out your bullets drop, and it figures out your angles, so that you know how much to hold over on the animal. However after comparing the leica 1200 vs the leica geovid binos with built in rangefinder, I would get the binos, they were consistantly ranging far things better than just the handheld. Although the newest ones just coming out from Leupold are supposed to be even better than all of them. We will have to see.

Dave if all else fails write it down on a bit of tape and stick it to the rifle or write down the ballistic on the actual sling till you memorize it.
good luck .

Always a good plan. First though I need to figure out what the ballistics are.

the 416 rem mag isn't listed but if you give me the bullet drop @300 if zero'd at 100 yards i'll be able to tell you.

+1.5" @ 100 & 11" low @ 200? something's not right there..............should only be a few inches low @ 200 with a 400gr @ 2400 fps

The ballistic crap on the arc is set up for a 100 yard zero. So its basicly useless for western hunting. The rangfinder works great though I have ranged Elk at 580 yards and trees at 920yards.

Thanks Barracuda. It all makes sence now. I looked in my Barnes reloading manual for this bullet and found that my load was traveling at 2275fps. Then I realized my mistake was that at my range I shoot in meters. So my zero in that calculator is 109 yards. In which case my drop of 11 inches at 200 isnt actually that. I havnt tested the muzzle velocity with my speed reader yet, however these numbers are close enough to work with. I don't plan on shooting this bear over 100 yards anyways, but I thought it would be good to figure out. Also I am 1.5 inches high at 109 yards so I will add that into the equation. Thanks a lot guys.
0= -1.50
50yards=.3
100yards=0.2
150yards=-1.9
200yards=-6.2
250yards=-13.0
300yards=-22.5

This is now taped to the butt of the rifle. With 1.5 inches added to each measurement.

the sight height is part of the equation so you do not add it after

The sight hight in the explaination says the distance between your eye level and your bullets centre. Not where its hitting on paper at 100 yards. Right?

correct, the sight height is set as an average sight height for most scoped rifles (1.5") .
if you look on the first graph (set to 10 yd increments)and follow the arc of the bullet as it travels from below the line of sight to its highest point and down again and how it relates to the constant sight plane which is 0 on the graph (line of sight which is the sight height ).

400gr @ 2275 fps, +1.5" @ 100m, should only be down about 6" @ 200m. I guess it's a little too late since you're leaving today, but I personally if I was gonna hunt with a 416 for gbear, Id shoot the 350gr TSX at about 2500-2600 fps

good luck!
