WOW !!!!

You are really turning out some great knives lately...I am impressed....

I do not think I could ever bring myself to gut an animal with one of those and actually get it DIRTY....

Keep it up DDOG, you definately have the knack...

thanks Mike and Mike and Roy and others, Ya this knife turned into a gorgeous one, its a big brute at 10.5". and the blade being a full 5".
i just had some company over and the guy really loved it, said it was just beautiful and he really wanted it.
this knife sits up on the top of the desk looking at me. its like the art with the little light shining on it.

That's a fine piece of work-- functionality and a work of art all in one. I have seen a number of Heinz Leber's knives and have one myself and this one looks as good as any of his I've seen.

where have you sourced your matterials from , lee valley??? i'm asking about the non handle materials.

betteroffishing....if your talking about the steel, brass, spacers and pins, i buy most of my stuff from knifemaker.ca formerly known as ranger original, they are in Cremona ,Alberta and are top notch people. i drove there last year to meet them and i am so glad i did. Rob and Marilyn are excellent to deal with and will give you any info you ask for.
once you get into knife making you constantly find deals on things you are going to use. the brass in this knife is harder than most brasses, it was originally part of a fire hydrant, and is a different color, more towards a gold color. very nice stuff.
i am limited as to where i get my materials from being in the east kootenays, Cremona is about 4 hours from me so it is cheaper for me to order from there than the lower mainland. But on the coast i am sure you can find many places that sell what you need. PM me if you need any info on what you need for basics on a knife.

Just to show off another one of Daryll's masterpieces, here's the one I had him made for me.

You can see how it greatly outsizes my EDC small Sebenza (also a great knife in itself).

Thats a gorgeous knife, the brass/handle colouration is perfect.
If you're making/selling more like that one but maybe more of standard fixed-blade belt knife size like the schematic of the one above, let me know.
How well do your knives hold an edge ?

no shit!!!!

I have decided to make the bolster on the second schematic from ivory and the rest of the handle out of the ebony you sent me.
I am also going to use nickel silver pins 1/8th for the bolster and 3/16th for the handle
total length is 7 1/2 inches with a 3 1/4 inch flat ground blade

i cant believe it, it is really close to the one in the picture. Brass bolster, nickel silver pins in the bolster, alternating brass and nickel silver pins, 2 of each in the handle.
total length is 7 1/2 inches with a 3 1/2 inch blade...weird crap man.
see the picture, i had to go and get it out of the clamps.http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d167/DDOGGY/IMG_0994.jpg

Blacktailstalker, the knives i have been making will hold an edge excellently, they are made from S30V Stainless steel and have a rockwell hardness of 60.

havent got them finished yet but I have a couple more drawings in the works for a couple more blades.
I map out all my knives on paper first before I actually lay them up
I find it really helps with the finished product

i am with you blacktail, i draw out the knife and then have it open to the page so i can keep looking the picture, especially if it is for someone.
i have done quite a few with no plans but they seem to take quite a bit longer.

yuppers me too

with the drop point I am hoping to get a hold of some ivory or some sort of substitute.
I may have to settle for ivory micarta or even a really thick piece of antler that I have to sand down to the pure white

Great knife you have on the go there Daryl. Here's another one of Daryl's masterpieces for the rest of you to see.

It has Nickel Bolsters and a Snakewood handle.
