Now that's a bear! Congrats to you and your son. Nothing like teaching him the ropes young.

He was a bit scared to walk up to the bear but once he realized it was dead, he was very pleased.

It was his idea to walk in and see if the bear was out feeding and he got to watch the whole event.

After the first shot the bear started running at an angle toward where we were hiding. I shot him a second time on the run and hit it in the guts. After the second shot he angled more and was approaching us straight on. I held the crosshairs on his head, and thankfully, he dropped dead about 35 yards from us. I really did not want to blow his noggin apart. Very exciting.

Go figure, of all the directions the bear had to run , he decided to come toward us! It certainly was not the textbook "pop and drop" that I had envisioned when I squeezed off the first round.

Going to be hard to top that.

Yes, he was quite stoked. He packs around a plastic folding Butler Creek SKS stock and a double barreled pistol.

That's a great looking bear RBF, Nice pumpkin. I am looking for something similar to get with my bow. Could you have gotten within 20-30 yards on him without being noticed...?

I've been in bow range on several bears when hunting with my rifle, and now that I am packing a bow they've all been out too far without much opportunity for stealth.

He was out in the middle of a meadow with his arse to us. We were hiding behind a raised mound. No cover to hide behind between the bear and us. A stalk would have been difficult.

If I was wearing a green astro turf body suit I may have gotten closer!

I didn't dare crawl on all fours toward him just in case he decided to kick me out of his grocery patch.
